How Much better will Chris Paul get?

Postby ShAuN on Fri Feb 10, 2006 8:06 am

CP3 is running away with ROTY. Hes 3rd in the league in Steals per game, 19th in the League in Effincey which is all your stats combined and whatnot. Hes first among Rookie Leaders in Points Per Game(16.2), Assists Per Game (7.7 7th in the NBA) Steals Per Game (2.2 3rd in the NBA) Double Doubles (14)

Hes only 20 years old and in his rookie season. Hes leading the Hornets to the playoffs. Hes in the Rookie VS Sophmore Challenge, the Skills Competition, and maybe an All-Star Reserve.

So basically, do you guys think he'll be better than Nash? Billups? Arenas? Wade?

I just wanted to see what you guys think.

Also pulls down an amazing # of boards for a PG.

This guy will be next Triple Double threat now that Kidd is declining.

He has already probably done one, but it was too short so we did not ge t achance to hear it  .
Anyway, he is just as good as Hinrich was his rookie year as a PG, I think that by his 8th year in the league he will be the best PG in NBA.

This is my opinion on his next five years.

Year two- 19.4 ppg, 6.9 apg, 5.1 rpg, 1.98 spg
Year three- 24.9 ppg, 5.8 apg, 6.3 rpg, 2.01 spg
Year four- 27.3, 4.7 asp, 6.1 rpg, 1.76 spg
Year Five- 26.9 ppg, 8.7 apg, 6.0 rpg, 2.33 spg
Year Six- 30.1 ppg, 4.1 apg, 5.8 rpg, 2.67 spg

Thats what I think. I think he will turn into a Kobe type later in his career and his assists wil ldrop.

From years 4-6 it starts to sound ridiculous. I see no indication of Paul turning into that big a scorer. The highest I see him averaging is around 24 and I think his assists will gradually rise, not decrease (except yr 5), as the years pass. Did you simulate that in dynasty?

I don't think his numbers will dramatically get better then they are now. I think he'll probably just become smarter over time, his scoring might drop a little and his assists could raise/turnovers drop.

He doesn't seem like he's the type that's just ready to explode into this 25/7/9 monster, but he will lead a team to many playoff appearances. I don't think the biggest improvements to his game will be seen statistically.

Seriously? THANK YOU!!

JAE:

Why would his scoring drop? Hes in his Rookie Year averaging 16ppg.....why would it go down to say 15ppg? I think he'll be at like 19ppg and 8-8.5apg then the next year like 20ppg and 8apg.

Maybe your right , but if you actually do see Chris Paul play you see that he really doesn't look for scoring. He's a smart player and will only get smarter.

I said as he gets smarter, his scoring might drop and his assists will rise. This is after the initial scoring rise next year of course, but I don't think he'll go any higher than 18ppg. He's not an especially prolific scorer, so he's not going to be an Iverson or anything.

He seems to put his team 1st he isnt gonna score 25+ ever maybe not even 20+, but he will probally will be sort of a Jason Kidd but he might turn out to go after stocktons 14 apg in a season record and his all-time assist record, or he might just keep up with stats like 15-20 ppg and 5-8 rpg and 6-9 apg.

No offense AirMJ23 , but its sort of hard to understand what you say when you don't use punctuation. And I don't think he'll put up 14 apg and I think he may average 20 ppg one year , not 25-30 though.

I fixed my punctuation, and if he turns out to play like Kidd he will only avrage around 14ppg, and even if he turns out to be like Stockton he won't put up much more than 16ppg.

I agree with Jae, he's a point guard, not a scorer. Steve Nash could be a scorer, but he's too busy to setting people up... probably will be the same for Paul.

Not being some sort of fanboy but he won't be anything like Stockton, he's playing real good now but won't get past 25 on average he's definatly a passer more then a scorer.

Lol, so you think he'll be better than Iverson? I spose if he becomes a "kobe type" he will be, but by that you mean a 3 time nba champion and the best player in the world.

no.... by 3 time nba champion and best player in the world he'd mean tim duncan.

i get the feeling, statistically, he'll be a cross breed of jason kidd and steve francis. as a player he is much more efficient than francis, but not as great a passer as kidd. i don't how much he'll improve, his numbers will probably go up next year and the next by a bit, but not to a lebron or iverson like stature. like jae said he will get more efficient, and how much better he gets probably won't be entirely seen through any number except the win column. theres a bright future for paul because i dont feel a baron davis or starbury like nature to his game.

Paul ranks #5 on my list of best PG's in the L. He'll only get better. He's smart, plays hard, reads the game well and has a nice shot selection. Over time his defense will improve, his shot will get better too (not that it's bad now).
