sonics worst team in the league?

Postby tongefactor40 on Wed Feb 08, 2006 6:33 am

who the hell gives up 119 points to the charlotte bobcats, who are like 13 and 36. unbelievable, why are the sonics having such a hard time playing defense? seriously if they could just get that together somewhat they would dominate, as of a couple days ago they were 2nd in the league in points scored and dead dead dead last in points allowed (3 points behind the next worst defense in the league). seriously stay in front of your man, fundamentals, not that hard

i dont understand how we can be so good last year then totally flop this year. im serious, i really think the sonics are the worst team in the league, especially when you lose to teams like the bobcats or new york

sonics suck, seahawks got jipped by refs, m's suck, this is so depressing

It was a contract year for all of the Sonic's big players last season. This was bound to happen.

If Seattle had a hockey team, it would suck too.

i blame all of it to the management. A horrible offseason. We all knew this was gonna happen after mistakes they made in the offseason. They lose AD, so who they replace him with? Rick Brunson. They also signed Mikki Moore. Enough said.

one game doesn't make a season but I won't dispute they are a poor defensive team hehe

Last year's team hit it's peak- With that roster I don't think they could have done any better

Jerome James & AD haven't done anything for their new teams. Radmanovic would be lucky to get the contract that management was offering him at the beginning of the season

Atlanta and Charlotte are probably the worst but one is a team in full rebuilding mode and the other is one year removed from expansion and decimated by injuries

I'd also add NYK to the mix too

yeah i agree, managment really dropped the ball, but youd think that teams wouldnt score 10+ more points against the sonics than they did last year by simply losing jj and ad, its not like they were the anchors in our defense ya know?

sigh, its just frustrating

Statistically last year's best defensive players were Evans & Collison. Evans is on his way out which leaves only Collison's 20 minutes per game as the only defense Seattle offers this year. AD isn't exactly Artest on defense, but he actually plays defense which is more than the rest of the perimeter.

It also doesn't help that the owner plans on selling the team and they'll probably move cities, which doesn't help matters anyway. Hard to focus on building a team when you think everything can change in a few years.

committing 4yrs/~29 mil to a player nearing 30 wasn't a good idea.. even if Daniels played some defense and had some clutch 4th qtr moments

JJ at least provided a shot blocker in the middle, something they are missing now. Still, the loss of 2 role players can have a HUGE impact. Biggest loss = McMillan

I agree , McMillan was the biggest loss they had. Portland is a better team IMO. After a really tough start, they've played pretty good since then... I think that's due to Nate McMillan coaching.

how can a coach make that much difference though? its not like the ssytem was totally reworked when he left, i mean, bob wiess was the assistant behind mcmillan, you think he would have learned something. it just seems like no one on the floor gives a shit anymore. and i think it is a tragedy that evens is not getting playing time. also about the move - its still really up in the air, and there is still a good chance the sonics will stay in seattle, time will tell though. cant imagine seattle without a bball team

Weiss is an experienced head coach and had been working under McMillan but even if he runs the same plays, he brings his own attitude and personality to the position and the players won't necessarily respond positively to that.
