How good are the Mavs?

Postby Axel on Wed Feb 01, 2006 12:19 pm

Nobody seems to give them any chance for playoff success... but their team stats are really good.

Average Margin of Victory: 6.3 points
Team RPG: 42.7
Opponent PPG: 93.7
Team PPG: 100.0
Team 3pt shooting: 39.1%
Team FT shooting: 75.9%
Team SPG: 7.5

These are just stats... but I think they're pretty good. How much do they matter?

the mavs are good... a wcf threat and possibly and finals threat.... but they won't be winning any championships this year unless dampier becomes shaq.... their success lies with dampier.... if he plays with heart and puts up numbers like he did with gs in his contract year... they would probably upset the spurs and get into the finals...
PPL r a little feisty these days:D

yeah the Mavs are a REALLY good team, (and my favorite by far) but they're defence is, and has been lacking for the past god-only-knows years. They also have a really good starting 5.

I don't plan on them catching a title this year either, unfortunateally.

mavs have lots of talent.....could beat the spurs in west finals but i dont see them getting past detroit, even if they were the first team to beat the pistons this season...

What I'm really looking foward to is their future. Josh Howard, Marquis Daniels and Devin Harris is a trio of young players that I'd like to see more of.

The thing about the Mavs is that some game they may play good defense but the next day they might play horrendous defense. They are pretty much like the Sun's of last year...great offense but bad defense. That's why teams with great defense(Spurs, Pistons) are the favorites and not teams with big offense (Mavs, Kings)

Remember, defense wins championships (Y)

I think the Mavericks have an excellent shot ai winning it all this year. We can say all we want about their defence but when you look into it, 93.7 opponent ppg isnt bad at all. Avery must be doing something right down there. Its also funny how many feel the Spurs are the class of the west but the Mavs are right there with them, albeit with less potential Finals hype. They have always been a very well-balanced and versatile offensive unit but now that the defense seems to be coming around its kinda scary to think of their potential as a team.

Avery Johnson plays an important role in Mavs...New 3 J and Dirk r steady, and i think mavs teamwork is also a key to their current nine straght wins!!!

don't get fooled with the fact that they are tied with SAS. When it comes down to it, SAS defence is far superior, no matter what the numbers say.

their success lies with dampier

he's the guy hindering this team.

They have always been a good regular season team so its no surprise to the media. The problem though is come playoff time. The mavs are always there but can't get it done. I have a strong feeling that if they ended with the first seed in the west and the lakers ended at eight they will lose.

lol :D he's hindering the team right now but he is capable of putting up excellent numbers and providing solid defense down low... i believe he and diop are the x-factors to this team...

I agree... I remember how much better he played with the Warriors... he had a season with 12 ppg and 12 rpg not too far back.

Yeah...I told someone on xfire today if the 2 played in the playoffs Kobe would average 60 ppg in that series...after all he did break out 62 against them. If he doesn't average 60 ppg against them then a more realistic number is 40-ish  I still don't think the Lakers can get out of the first round though if by some miracle of God they were able to make the playoffs.

Not a lakers fan , actually a Wizards fan. I know that team's limits though , and there is no way they are going to the Western conference finals like Greg Anthony predicted a few weeks back on KIA NBA Shootaround.
