Kirilenko, what came first?

Postby Laxation on Thu Jan 05, 2006 4:50 pm

Did Kirilenko get his nickname (AK47) before or after he got his jersey?

eg. he wanted to get #47 so he could be called Ak47, or if it was just a coincedence

get it? :?

I think it was Raja Bell or another Utah teammate that told him to do it.

Kobe's favorite player talks about Kobe
"I think he does what he has to do," San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili said. "Of course, there's a difference between 35 and 25 shots, but he's got that ability to make every shot. Even if it's in front of two guys he jumps so high on fadeaways it doesn't matter. He's got so many resources, it's easy for him to take 35 shots. If I was his teammate, I wouldn't care."

I believe AK47 is a Russion gun that is still used even though was inveted in World War 1 and he is Russion so that might have to do with it.

AK47 is indeed a Russian automatic rifle, but I do believe it was created WAY after WWI...

That was not the question.. He was asking whether it was a coincidence that Kirilenko has number 47 or it was on purpose.

It was a marketing trick. He chose #47 because someone noticed that his intials are those of an AK47, and he thought it would be cool to wear that number. I'm not making this up, I actually read this somewhere.

it was a friend he had in Russia.

He noticed that his initials were A.K. so he told Kirilenko to wear the number 47.

that picture scared the shit out of me

oh and on the issue of his number, when you play against or as utah, one of the "unique" commentaries steve kerr says is something about how he had a different number and then after someone else got traded to utah and wanted what his previous number was so he decided to change it to 47 (or it could have been someone that was in utah that wore 47 earlier got traded away and he wanted 47, cant remember). then the rest of kerr's commentary is that he didnt get why he chose #47 until afterwards realizing it combined with his initials, and that he truly is a weapon. someone that can go and check the commentary can correct me if i am wrong.
