John Hollinger answered my question....

Thu Jan 05, 2006 3:43 am

Matt (Perth, Australia): Is it time to ship Milicic? Young guys like Harrington, JO, Brezec, G Wallace etc all needed a change of scenery and playing time to realise their potential. What deals would be available, I know Joe D likes plenty of big men on his roster.

John Hollinger: (12:41 PM ET ) I think it's reach the point that Joe D would consider it, because by next fall they have to decide whether to extend Darko's deal. Here's what I wonder; What would they trade for? Lookng at Detroit, is there anything they appear to need right now other than a less disappointing 12th man?

maybe it'll appear on the daily dime :P

anyways, i though i'd post it before they close the "chat" session off and only ESPN insiders can read it.

btw, discuss the topic....

JO? What JO are you talking about?

Thu Jan 05, 2006 3:49 am

Jermaine O'Neal.....

Oooh never mind, I read the question wrong. I thought you were listing guys to possibly trade Darko for.

That's funny that you should be so proud of John Hollinger answering your question when you don't really believe in his statistics (or anyone for that matter).

Thu Jan 05, 2006 3:58 am

what happened to darko anyways? haven't heard from him in quite a while.

Thu Jan 05, 2006 4:03 am

He was tearing it up in the preseason and now he rides the bench. Once again. Yup, that's our Darko. I hope he retires, goes to Europe for a couple of years, comes back to the States and becomes the next Jordan.

But then again - if you were Charlotte, would you trade for him? And I mean giving up some serious talent a la Gerald Wallace&Melvin Ely for Darko&fillers? He isn't Kwame-like. He has the right mentality, the psychical stats Kwame never had and actual talent which he shows if opportunity is given.

 I was just about to mention this

i guess congrats anyway. i normally miss those live chats, epsecially the fantasy ones

that's because his statistics (like most) have major flaws.....and this question has nothing to do with stats.

you play the "stats have a major flaw" card whenever you see it doesn't support your argument

why don't you point out which statistical analysis of his you find has major flaws and explain why

Thu Jan 05, 2006 6:01 pm

Basically, stats are only a guidline to go by not facts. Not referring to his stats alone, but in general they neglect many factors (all which i mentioned in a previous thread).

Thu Jan 05, 2006 6:57 pm

i agree with you matt. Kwame is a much better defender than what Hollinger's stats say. :)

Fri Jan 06, 2006 8:41 am

you'll have to be more specific, Matt. You're generalizing saying ALL stats are flawed and should be discredited

So you're saying something as cut and dry as FT stats are flawed? Dirk has made 50 FT's in a row. I think it's safe to say, going by the stats for players who have shot 50FT's, that he currently has been the best FT shooter in the league.

Now there are some stats that aren't accurate such as Assist to Turnover ratio but there have been other assist stats that have been come up with to better evaluate a players ability to get other players involved

I do not think stats tell the whole story but some credence should be given to them, especially those by the geeks over at 82games.com.

I don't think you understand most of the stats over there so you just dismiss them altogether (N)

That's why most people don't like stats. They just don't understand them. Real stats that is, not per game stats.

I think they might be best off keeping Darko, although i can understand if he wants to leave for more PT.

He's still damn young to write off as a bust.

Sat Jan 07, 2006 8:04 pm

then again so was kwame and he still is... maybe a kwame for darko(after he gets his contract extended)

Mon Jan 09, 2006 12:13 am

the problem is, we want more than what anyone is prepared to give.

i highly doubt his attitude will EVER right itself in detroit, he really needs to leave to get a new idea of the game.

I do understand them, it's just that some of them aren't that great at all. Correct me if i'm wrong but do their defensive analysis account for missed defensive rotations or how many times a guy has been faked out?

btw- do you keep a running tally in your head of what you just mentioned? what's your system to determine who are the better players???

thats a pretty cool site. its weird to see that michael redd is the worst SG defensively, yet was picked out of college for his defensive skills
