Is Utah a playoff team?

Postby Axel on Wed Jan 04, 2006 4:25 pm

They're currently the Northwest division leader, and that makes them the 3rd seed. They haven't been healthy all year... I'm not sure of the extent of some of their bigger injuries.. but if they get healthy, I think they could beat out the Timeberwolves for the playoffs.

Should Jerry Sloan be considered for early coach of the year honors? They really were expected to be wayyy farther down.

They've always been a good team, just plagued by injuries unfortunately like this season's Rockets. At full arsenal, they're one hell of a team. Okur is/was the most underrated center in the NBA, Boozer's a very capable scorer, Kirilenko's a beast in every aspect, and Matt Harpring's also a terribly underrated player.

if they kept healthy all season then they'd be below Spurs, Mavs, Suns....which would make them 4th best.

We'll I'd also have to put them behind the Clippers too. The Clips have a few injury problems, but their lineup is really good this year.

I think they have the talent and the coach to be one, but they need everyone to be healthy to make something happen.

I said before the season they'd be in. They were my Western Conference sleeper, and I'm sticking to it.

Kirilenko is an absolute monster, but he's been getting injured pretty frequently. Where the fuck is Carlos Boozer anyway?

Booz should be back within 2-3 weeks. He has had problems with his hamstring.

Maybe if you had posted this at the exact same time as the person right before you this post wouldn't make you a total and complete idiot. Unfortunately...

Fun team to watch when Okur's shooting well and Kirilenko isn't hurt.
They're probably only 1 decent SG away from being a serious playoff team.

I don't know where Boozer will play returning to the lineup...Okur's been playing so well at the PF slot, he'll never unseat AK at the 3. C?

They'll probably move Okur to C & play Boozer at the PF and leave AK at SF.

They tried that last year, I believe, in the beginning of teh season and after a 6-0 or something like that, things went south from there. Okur would be wasted at C, in my humble opinion.

C - Carlos Boozer
PF - Mehemet Okur
SF - Andrei Kirilenko
SG - Gordan Giricek
PG - Deron Williams

You can always shuffle Okur and Giricek and you still have Jarron Collins, Greg Ostertag and Robert Whaley on the bench. Ostertag and Collins aren't terrible defenders so if they're going up against a guy Boozer can't handle you got lots of guys that can foul and you don't have to worry.

At SG you can either start Giricek or Harpring, I just put Giricek because he's more suited to SG than Harpring and last year (This is just off the top of my head, correct me if I'm wrong) Harpring did pretty well coming off the bench.

Booz wont be in the starting lineup right off though. They will probly bring him off the bench for awhile. Also all the trade rumors are fake the jazz are not tradeing him. Plus right now he isnt of much value but still I highly doubt they will trade him.
