Bob Weiss FIRED

Postby Riot on Wed Jan 04, 2006 4:35 am

ESPNEWS just annouced that Seattle has fired Head Coach Bob Weiss. Assistant coach Bob Hill will take his place as the interim head coach for the season.

I think most people say this move coming. Weiss has done an awful job as head coach this year for the Sonics.

I agree, they had a wonderful season last year with 52-30, now they're below .500. They need McMillan back (y)

Funny how they fired him after they got their asses handed to them by the Pacers. Wellllll guys, we can do that to teams.

You can't say its Bob's fault the team sucks though. They lost so much of what they had last season that made the team go. They wouldn't have been good this year with Nate or without him.

Very unfortunate for him. Hopefully this new guy will help salvage their season.

Wow, that's completely unfair. They dont retain any of their talent and then actually expect this guy to coach the team to a winning record... BS

yeah the expectations were too high for Weiss.. it sucks for him.

last year, they over achieved and now everyone expects too much out of this team.

thats what happen in sports...if the team does shitty, the easiest move is to fire the coach.

Jerome James played a pretty big role last year.

I hope thats sarcasm.

I guess what I thought was true; the huge contract years for Allen, Radmanovic, Murray and the other players were the only reasons why the Sonics played so well. That and probably the loss of McMillan, but he doesn't seem like a hall of fame coach that would make this big of an impact.

They also lost Casey to Minnesota.

Antonio Daniels last season was #2 player in assists to turnover ratio and their only perimeter defender. He was as important to seattle as Duhon was to Chicago last year, and produced a similar # of assists with less TOs.

Jerome James was the #5 shot blocker per minute last year, ahead of Duncan & Shaq and only behind shotblocking machines like Camby and Foyle...his issue has always been that he wasn't in shape to play more than 17 mpg...but he was a very good find considering they just picked him up off waivers.

They were roleplayers, but along with the loss of their head coach and best assistant coach it's a pretty devastating blow.

Yeah, Casey wouldn't have bolted to Minnesota he would have been the head coach in Seattle.

I heard Sonic fans saying that Bob Hill was their first choice for head coach all along but Weiss needed to fail before Hill got a shot.

The sonics should have tried the winningest and losingest coach in NBA history Lenny Wilkens.
Kobe's favorite player talks about Kobe
"I think he does what he has to do," San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili said. "Of course, there's a difference between 35 and 25 shots, but he's got that ability to make every shot. Even if it's in front of two guys he jumps so high on fadeaways it doesn't matter. He's got so many resources, it's easy for him to take 35 shots. If I was his teammate, I wouldn't care."

He's already coached them way back when. I don't know how Sonics fans would react to him coaching there again.

I know that. How would they react? Well, he is currently a commentator for the sonics.

I don't think he was given neither the time nor the resources to do his job. But that is the NBA. WIN, OR ELSE... :|

Someone's always has to be the scapegoat, and Weiss doesn't have enough clout to avoid the bull's eye.

Heck, if a coach as good as Flip Saunders can be a scapegoat for an underachieving team, anyone can.

If he could take them to the title as he did in 1979, I'd say somewhat positively. But that might be just a tad optimistic...

Its not Weiss' fault. It just happen that they diddnt have key players from last season. Its too early to tell but I guess Bob Hill will do everything since he is much experienced coach!
