James reaches scoring milestone
November 13, 2005

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- LeBron James became the youngest player in NBA history to reach 4,000 career points Sunday night in Cleveland's game against Orlando.

James (20 years, 318 days) entered needing 10 points pass Kobe Bryant (21 years, 216 days). James reached the milestone on a 21-foot jumper with 58.7 seconds left in the first quarter.

Earlier in the period, James scored twice on driving layups and also had a dunk.

Got to love it!!! He's only 20, think about what he'll be doing in a few more years.

Just think what he would of done in college

What are his chances of breaking Kareem's record of most points???? If he keeps healthy and has a long career , he will.

Out of curiousity, since Kobe and LeBron are the youngest guys to make it to 4000, does it mean it's a surefire way that they'll break Michael Jordan's total points?

It's impressive no doubt, but when you enter the league at the age of 18 and you're already a talented player, chances are you're going to break age-related statistical records. Not to take away from the accomplishment but he's actually in a position to set such a record moreso than a player like Duncan who spends four years at college. Also, his youth alone won't guarantee him the top spot on the all-time scoring leaders; he'll need to up his average a bit and keep it that way for more than just a few seasons to have a decent shot at it, as well as being around for 15 or more seasons.

Anyway, kudos to James, it's nice to see him continue to live up to the hype. He's lived up to nearly all of the expectations people had of him coming into the league and through his first couple of seasons (with the possible exception of the Cavs becoming a playoff team, especially last season), he's still getting better and he's a long way from being finished to say the least. Basically, the only thing standing between him and the honour of being the league's marquee player is team success.

good going by LeBron...but yeah he seems to a bit worn out so far, I guess its cause of the big overhaul the team went through.

He's probably going to be the youngest to score
5,000 then 6,000 then 7,000 then... 10,000
Will they keep on going with the whole "youngest to score" until then? It is inevitable unless Darko becomes Wilt Chamberlain or something. (Which will not happen...)

Darko a Wilt Chamberlain? hahaha that was funny :D

Congrats to Lebron. I don't care if he's the youngest to score 4000, and then 6000, and then 8000 and then 10000. What really matters to me is how many games did he take him to accomplish that feat - that's what really matters and I have two guys who are ahead of everybody else and their names are Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan.
