Knicks Look To Move Marbury

NY Post - Without citing any specific source, Peter Vescey says that Knicks' president Isiah Thomas and head coach Larry Brown have notified "certain teams ... with specific needs" that Stephon Marbury is available.

Vescey says the Knicks started the process about two weeks ago by putting out feelers in order to gauge interest.

The coach may not be entirely enamored with his star point guard's game and Brown’s may be the weightiest opinion at MSG these days.

"This is New York," Vescey writes, "where Thomas brought in Brown to save his job and [Brown] might wind up taking it."

Getting back equal value may be the tricky part but the Knicks may prefer to erase Marbury from the roster than worry about the particular talent swap they receive in return.

Vescey speculates on a return back to Minnesota for Marbury, possibly in exchange for Wally Szczerbiak. Miami is another potential destination mentioned by Vescey, with Jason Williams and Antoine Walker two pieces in the mix. Vescey also talks about Jalen Rose (but Marbury has two more remaining contract years than Rose, which may make such a deal unappealing to the Raptors’ management).

Vescey states that the Knicks' young gun rookies are untouchable for now

I think the Knicks should trade Crawford and Curry before they ever trade Marbury.

I doubt this story is true. Because teams that are mentioned in the article aren't those teams with specific "needs". LA needs a PG, not Miami or Minnesota. Although, you never know with I. Thomas.

As much as I'd love to see Marbury and Garnett reunite it's probably not going to happen. The Timberwolves are EXTREMELY happy about their 3 point guard rotation (Jaric, Hudson, Carter) and adding a 4th would be quite insane.

Each time Marbury was traded his former team has became one of the best in the nba (minny, nj, phx)

remove also crawford from their roster and you will get a pretty good team (which could go to the playoff)

Timberwolves are trying to trade Olowokandi and Wally Szczerbiak for Steve Francis, Stephon Marbury or Pau Gasol. Fillers would be added to make salaries work if they don't already.

I'd be in favor of Gasol to help Garnett but I think Francis and Marbury would give the Wolves the extra offense to push them into the playoffs.

i dont think theres any way jerry west would pull a gasol trade for kandi and wally, that would be ridiculous. like they really need a washed up centre and another swing man. if it was possible, hell yeah, thats the one to go with, it'd be like the twin thin towers. id prefer marbury over francis, itd be ironic yet strangely fitting if he came and they became succesful.

Jerry West has wanted Michael Olowokandi for a few years. He's been trying to get the Timberwolves to deal him for over a year and when Olowokandi was a free agent from the Clippers he tried to sign him.

For some reason, West really wants Olowokandi. I don't know why he'd wany Wally Szczerbiak though.

What? I'm just telling you what the rumors say and what Jerry West has said over the course of a few years. He loves Olowokandi, he'd get Olowokandi and Szczerbiak. I said I know why he wants Olowokandi but I don't know why he wants Wally.

Isaiah's moves have been nothing but stellar so far, so i can't believe he'd trade Steph for any less than 2 1st round draft picks from a lottery team, and all the teams that would like to add Steph are nowhere near lottery status.

Really? Isiah Thomas has been begging for Wally Szczerbiak since he got to New York. And Marbury's trade value isn't excatly at an all-time high.

I doubt Marbury gets moved but saying Marbury and Jerome James for Troy Hudson, Wally Szczerbiak and Michael Olowokandi is laughable would be insane.

Stephon Marbury for two lottery picks? Good luck with that. Stephon Marbury makes too much to be traded simply for draft picks and name a lottery team that would do that? Lottery teams are usually rebuilding teams. Rebuilding teams wouldn't trade two lottery firsts for a 28 year old shoot first point guard with a big contract.

If the Knicks want to deal Marbury they'll have to trade him at market value, which isn't as high as it once was.

If Nate Robison was say 5 inches taller everyone would just like him, but since hes short and playing in the NBA he should be loved ala Earl Boykins(I love Earl cause he played for us and did well not cause hes short). He still has ways to go before he can be considered a future of a franchise, Im yet to see 5'7 players be franchise superstars and there's no indication in Nate Robinson that he'll change anything.

Marbury should be kept, Crawford and Curry are the pieces of crap they have to get rid off first and foremost. Well Crawford first since they cant get rid of Curry yet, seriously I mean how can you blame Marbury for the Knicks losses when he has heaps of NBA crap to play alongside. I say throw the management out before anything and then get rid of Crawford and Curry and the Knicks can once again think of being a legit team. I wont be suprised if Denver comes into the mix, they might think of trading Andre Miller ++ for Steph and Jamal.

Steph is easily worth 2 1st round lottery picks and then some.

Remember, New York (a lottery team) traded 2 1st rounded picks + Sweetney for Eddy Curry....who isn't anywhere near Steph's level of game (i won't count Tim Thomas, neither team wants him he was used to balance salaries).

Of course Centers are a premium, but lets look at some #s here...Steph averaged only 2 less rebounds than Curry did

I don't know what Jerry West sees in Olowokandi but he has been trying to get him for years. He must see something.

kandi actually isnt bad for a big in todays game, but theres no way they're gonna trade their star player for him even if west jacks off to him every night. wally is a good player, but they've already got mike miller, not to mention battier and the two jones. troy hudson is useless to the grizz, eddie griffin is probably the only other player they might want, but he's got baggage. i really dont see it happening, but i know you were just mentioning it so i forgive you.

kandi, wally, hudson for marbury and james is actually viable in my opinion. nate is being a little overhyped here because he's a little guy and i dont think he will be anything near marbury is, but him and hudson would make up a decent backcourt for the knicks and give them two massively underachieving but decent bigs (with frye and lee the future at 4). i like wally at the 3 he is a little underrated even though he's sucking ass early on this season. q could play the 2 and hopefully brown can teach jamal the point. is it equal value? no. marbury is a star no matter what anyone says. but the team that gets the greater value isnt always the team that wins. minny would have to start james at centre (which really isnt much of a downgrade...), but have to play either griffin or mccants (neither ready to start) off position at the 3. oh wait, i forgot jaric, i guess they could start him there. so what?

it could work (and is probably better depth wise) and its not like they're anything right now anyways. i would do it if were the minny gm, i dont know if id do it if i were isiah, if play like they are for 10 more games, he'll have to do something.
