What do you think about our French players ?

Thu Nov 10, 2005 8:19 am

Hi guys, first post here.

What do you think about the French guys ? Tony Parker is still hot, Boris Diaw is playing well with PHX (ATL may have some regrets), Mikael Pietrus is damn good too ! I wish Florent Pietrus (Mikael's brother) be in the league too soon... You think Tariq Abdul Wahad is finished ? What about Petro at SEA ?

Thx in advance for your comments :D

greetings frenchy! i think the french players are actually, amazingly pretty good. my favorite french player for a couple years running has been boris diaw, with parker as a close second. i dont think pietrus will amount to anything, and yeah wahads done. have not heard much of florent, what position does he play? spain has a nice future too with gasol and calderon, canada needs some new stars as nash and magloire are getting a little older, i hope it happens and they play for toronto (or vancouver gets a new team....)

why do you think pietrus will amount to nothing??? he already is a very good, aggressive defender and his offense is developing at a good rate. he's shown the ability to guard 3 positions effectively.

he's at least a bruce bowen in the making or as you like to say, a poor man's bruce bowen ;)

Like Boris Diaw, he plays PF in the French league, so I guess he would play SG or SF in the NBA... he's 6"7 & 186 lbs LOL !

He played well during the lastest Olympics with the French team.

jesus, are they twins?

i cant talk too much about pietrus because i havent seen him play often, but call it a gut feeling? i dont see him taking dunleavys job at the 3, unless dunleavly moves to the 4,and murphy to the 5.... it would be ultimate run and gun basketball. i think pietrus will be more like posey than bowen, or he might pull a sprewell out of his ass. either way unless golden state trades him he'll be more of a sixth man.

how do you have a gut feeling about someone you haven't even seen play often? :?

Thu Nov 10, 2005 9:55 am

It's Fredrik Weis's fault getting posterized by Vince in the olympics, pretty much ruined how everyone sees french players ... imagine, 7'2" cringing and getting dunked on.

Whatever happened to Moiso? Isn't he french? Early on I thought he'd make a great backup 4-5 guy.

Jerome Moiso played half decently and showed signs of promise for the Hornets a few years ago, so the Raptors decided to pick him up. He was basically an underachiever who relied heavily on his athletiscm, so no one has picked him up since then.

Hell, I wouldn't mind giving him another shot with the Raptors, since any big man on the Raptors is better than the heaps of trash that we have, although he probably wouldn't want to play there anyway.

Weis has nothing to be ashamed of. Vince has dunked over the very best, i saw his sophomore year VC in half court take the ball drive completely past his man and dunk over both Duncan and Robinson.

Anyway, the french player that set the image for the French in the NBA isn't Weis, it's Dominique Wilkens. The stereotype is that they are very athletic but not very good shooters (for Europeans).

Weis shouldn't feel bad, it was an offensive foul anyway. Didn't know it was legal to force someones head under your legs when you're trying to dunk on them.

Thu Nov 10, 2005 3:16 pm

What about Johan Petro, is he any good?

Id really like see Tariq Abdul-Wahad back in the game, he was a pretty decent swingman before his injuries, I think he could still be a decent vet backup ala Bryon Russell.

Whats with the blow up doll avatar? I thought the French had plenty of loving in there country.

Weis' Draft Rights still belong to some team... I don't remember who it is.. maybe the Knicks.

Anyone know if he's thinking of going over? And can anyone tell me about that French guy: Antonie Rigadeau?

Yep it's not his fault... but everytime somebody talks about the knicks needing another big body, all you can remember about him is getting beat and dunked on, It is probablly better for the knicks, PR-wise no to. So they could shed that stench of all that loosing in MSG. VC single handedly erased the phrase "you can't teach height" on that sinlge dunk. Why would you need gargantuan height, if VC is going to leap over them... I've quite a few games where yao ming gets dunked on... yet he is an all-star, and a lot of people thinks of him as the future of NBA centers.

Regarding the foul, maybe a little bit of liniency was applied by the refs. Then again it might have taken them a couple of minutes laughing their heads off, or trying to wrap their minds around something so spectacular. But. I think when they wrote and re-wrote the rules of basketball, they never imagined a player having to protect their groin, coz they were going to dunk on someone. So. I don;t think you can fault anybody on a no call... Nowadays it happens alot in the nba. but never has there been a time where the guy on offense really leaped over and landed perfectly on both feet.

Thu Nov 10, 2005 5:38 pm

Yeah to be honest, I can never see anyone calling a foul on that play... well apart from me because it would've pissed people off  My only real gripe with the dunk is that VC really pushes Weis' head under his legs. It was still a great dunk though either way.

never said i've never seen him play...... have you ever seen a really hot chick walking down the street and want to screw her? - gut feeling. except with pietrus, i really really really dont.... and thats not just based on the picture. its almost as if they took a little ugly out of tony parker, multiplied it by two, and inserted it into pietrus.

i didn't claim you never saw him play in the first place. regardless, using this gut feeling as a main point for you arguing that he wont amount to anything doesn't hold much water so to speak

as for seeing a hot chick and knowing the "verdict" immediately, you shallow bastard

Yes, he played 11 games with the Mavs in 2003 before being placed on the injury list (sic).

Moiso was regarded here as the best French player back in the late 90's before Parker... but I guess theses hopes have been shadowed by his heart problems. Also, he didn't prove to be so good.
A few days ago, I read rumors he could replace Nene at the Nuggets.

Fri Nov 11, 2005 11:08 pm

I was gonna say Boris is a very big 2 guard. Then you said how he plays pf over in france. So it kinda cleared it up for me.

I never knew Moiso had heart problems. Is that the reason why he sucked so much on the court?

Have you seen the no-look pass from Diaw to Marion in the highlights from Saturday ?

Cool... 8-)
