Rodman Wants Tryout With Bulls

Before signing free-agent power forwards Malik Allen and Darius Songaila, consider adding a seven-time NBA rebounding leader instead.

Of course, there’s a catch. The available player is 44-year-old Dennis Rodman, whose last appearance in an NBA uniform came in 2000 when he spent 12 games with the Dallas Mavericks .

Then again, Rodman was wildly popular here when he played for the Bulls’ three championship teams from 1995-98, as much for his off-court antics as his ferocious defense.

“He would love to come back,” said Rodman’s agent, Darren Prince. “He loves the people of Chicago, loves the city. I’m sure the fans would embrace him. All we’ve asked is to come in for a tryout.”

Bulls general manager John Paxson acknowledged that he has taken a few phone calls from Prince, but he chose not to comment on Rodman. It’s safe to say the 6-foot-8 showman does not rank high on the Bulls’ wish list.

“I’m in constant contact with several GMs, but no one has pulled the trigger yet,” Prince said. “His top choices are L.A. and Chicago. He would love to reunite with Phil Jackson (on the Lakers), and he would love to go back to Chicago. Both cities love him.”

He is 44 years old! He is too old to play again. He should stay home instead.

I don't think he'll be much use at 44 years old, maybe he can teach kirk hinrich how to dress "cool"

He's probably still better than guys like Funderburke and Reiner, so I guess they should give him a shot

He's always been a guy that relied on his hard work to be an NBA player, so who knows.

It's not like he's going to need the ball.

Mihm plays center though, Rodman would be a PF/SF, poor Mihm, if he didn't foul so much he wouldn't be that bad, he's actually decent.

I'd like to see him try out. Rodman's one of the hardest workers, and I've read about his work ethic in his autobiography, so like Shawn Kemp working at a comeback, I think he deserves at least a try out. It'd be sweet if he played for the Lakers.

Its a try-out, I dont think he can contribute much to the team but he is still crazy and fearless as always.

I don't think he'll ask for anything more than a minimum salary, so why not? He is still a good rebounder at least; I'd assume because he had tons of rebounds in the crappy league he was in and even in Dallas.
Bored.

Don't think he's worth it. At 44 is very old for a player and injuries are much more likely to happen. He may be good for 4-5 boards a game in limited minutes but how often would he play? And would he proove to be too much of a locker room and or public distraction?

He might be good for a team that's struggling for recognition. Atlanta anyone?

After rethinking, I guess the Bulls should give him the chance to play for one more time, at least he can still teach/coach both Curry and Chandler how to be a great rebounder.

He is going to play in a Finnish League game sometime in early November... Although I'm pretty sure that he has some clause that if he gets signed to the NBA he won't make these games...

He's going to play one or two games here... I'm still pondering on wheter to go see it or not...

The contract also states that he has to play atleast 20 minutes in the game so he will actually have to play...

yeah, i've read about that but remeber it very vaugely. It should be an indication to the NBA how he is doing... The sad thing is that the guy said that they hope fans will enjoy him.. so I think hes implying Rodman was signed for entertainment purposes... -_-"

Does it mean he won't play hard? Isn't Rodman an entertainment package wherever he goes? He's like Ron Jeremy is with porn... He no longer has to do it, but he keeps on blipping on the radar every once in a while...

I'm sure that he will put on a good show, on and off the court as he always has! Rodman isn't just a very good rebounding player, he's a one man show that comes into town and everyones intrigued.

yeah he is/was one of the best rebounders in NBA history... can't really forget that overnight even if he is 44. he'll definitely be better than Funderburke/Reiner/Allen maybe even Harrington. I could see him helping the young guys like Chandler and selling out the United Center pretty easily
