Garnett to become more vocal

Postby Riot on Sat Aug 27, 2005 2:37 am

Kevin Garnett appears to be taking on a greater leadership role with the Timberwolves. Garnett telephoned teammates and asked them to attend new coach Dwane Casey's volunteer gathering in Las Vegas, Nev., this week. Garnett even asked owner Glen Taylor to attend, which he did. And during a dinner in Las Vegas with Taylor, Garnett, who turns 30 next spring, intimated he intends to be more vocal next season, especially during practices.

Garnett also telephoned free-agent guard Michael Finley, whom the Wolves will try to recruit today in Chicago, and requested that he be allowed to accompany Taylor and the rest of the front office seeking to sign Finley.

It's great to hear Garnett become even more vocal and taking on even more of a leadership role this upcomming season. He took last season personally and we all know he doesn't want to miss the playoffs again. I hope the team comes to play because I know Garnett will and hopefully this year Garnett will chew anyone out who isn't playing hard.

Good to hear. KG's my favourite player not called (insert tall white outside shooters name here). I think he is a decent leader, but sometimes you just can't do anything with the teammates you're given.

KG's one of my favorite players, and I hope for his sake that his team can get somewhere this year. I don't know how far they can get, but I'll be routing for them in the West.

No, I think that they can make the playoffs. They got rid of Sprewell and Cassell, but I'm thinking Rashad McCants might be one of those "sleeper" rookies.

Man, he's 29! I never thought that he's that old. Anyway, this or the next season are his chances for the tittle.

By sleeper do you mean rookie who "Falls asleep when he sould be playing defense"?

I like McCants as a scorer but hes gonna get worked in the west with his height and Kobe, Tmac and Ray Alen being out there. They'll have a feild day versus Minny.

But about Garnett i always thought he was a big leader on that team but i guess it wasnt enough.

I guess Garnett wasnt the "leader" of the TWolves last year. He should have come to this last year when they really needed someone to be vocal, yet again you can't blame Garnett for Minnesota's last year

If you ask me, I thought he was pretty quiet last year. It might have to do with his love for Sam, but glad he's taking an early vocal approach at this stage of the season. If they can mesh, no doubt, Minnesota would be very good.

McCants is the same heigh as Dwyane Wade (I think) but he has a larger wingspan. McCants can play defense but in college his coach Doherty told him to play with less energy and to tone down his attitude and he never got comfortable. I think he'll do fine, he won't be starting.

As for Garnett, he has been the leader for years and last year he was vocal. However, some people think he wasn't vocal towards Sprewell and Cassell because he was friends with them and respected them too much but he got in Wally and other young players faces during practice and sometimes during the game. I think basically what he's saying now is he isn't going to take shit from ANYONE this year. He lost his best friend (Flip Saunders) because of last season and he's pissed.

I thought Sam Cassell was his best friend? I think Sam was more of a vocal leader on last year's squad then KG was.

Good for him though.

Flip has been KG's coach and friend for the past 10 years. Sam was his friend and so was Flip but him and Flip were closer.

well, a coach-player and player-player friendship are different on-court.

I agree, Sam was the vocal point of last years team but KG is definetly the player that has to be the leader on AND off the court. At 30 years old and with an MVP trophy I expected him to be that kind of player last year.

Where do you guys come up with Sam being the vocal leader of the team? Because he talks alot? That doesn't mean he was the vocal leader, Sam was not the leader of the team last year especially considering he wasn't healthy for most of it.

Then who was? No one...maybe
The thing is KG should have taken this role in the team last year. He was clearly the only one that came out every game and played 100%
Im glad that he is taking this chance right now to actually be the leader of Wolves

Lol he was and has been the leader of the Wolves. Why do you think he is suddenly becomming the leader? He's been the leader since 1997-1998. He chews players out, he leads by example and by opinion. All he is saying is he wants to be even MORE of a leader because he felt last year was his fault and he wants to do whatever he can to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Im saying that since Sam and Spree are finally gone, he can start over cause even though the Twolves where championship contenders 2 years ago, this team has to start over specially when Spree was bitching and Sam was injured.
