Juan Dixon a Blazer

Postby RxC6 on Thu Jul 28, 2005 10:25 pm

Washington Post - The Washington Post is reporting that free agent guard Juan Dixon and the Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to a three-year contract worth around $8 million, according to Dixon's agent, Calvin Andrews. Contracts can't be officially signed until the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement is ratified, which should be early next week.

That's interesting, I like Dixon... he's got some potential left in him, plus if they lose Van Exel and Stoudamire somehow he might get some good minutes. Decent signing.

Juanny is great....he was superb in college and is a great scoring punch and ball thief off the bench....a great signing if it happens, although they already have Telfair and Jack :| for the Wizards' sake, they should really re-up him (Y)

Van exel and Stoudamire are gonna be gone. The only problem is with this signing is they already have good PGs. Telfair and Jack. Let's see how this will work out.

Potential? He's a 27 year old 6'3 SG/PG going into his 4th year, I'm not sure if he really has any potential when his game has stayed the same the past 3 years, and he came into the NBA at an old age.

Dixon is not a PG, far from it, he can get hot at times, but he's very inconsitent, and unreliable. He's a guy that never gives up though, no matter how much the team is down, which is also great, but he's also a bit selfish.

Potential left in him... i.e to progress to a point where he can be a decent contributer. When you're stapled to a teams bench, regardless of your age it's a bit difficult to really show what you can do. Ask Darko.

Edit: Before this is misinterpreted, I'm not comparing Darko's situation to that of Juan Dixon.

I have never really followed the Wizards, but the much I heard about him is that he's a little too trigger happy as a point guard, inconsistent... but I've heard that he's a guy that can hit the big shots in the clutch.

He can hit big shots, the best thing about him is that he never gives up no matter how much the deficit. The bad thing is that he's only hot 1 of every 5 games when the team is down, and he onlt produces well once a week.

Potential left in him... i.e to progress to a point where he can be a decent contributer.

I guess......

He's an undersized SG, his offense is very good but that's not what keeps him on the bench...it's everything else.

To make it as an undersized SG you have to be extremely athletic even for the NBA, like Francis. Even Gordon (who came out of the summer bench pressing 300 lbs) struggled initially.

I think he can work as a reserve, because he'll only have to guard 2nd string SG's and he's got confidence on the offensive end to spark the 2nd unit.

Its good to see that Portland is making moves.

I like it when teams in the gutter don't sit on their hands.

Juan Dixon is a guy who can continue to improve in this league and end up being a starter.

He will never be an All Star, but he wants the ball in his hands in clutch moments, and he can go on streaks where he is just absolutly on fire.

See the Bulls series, I can't remember which game. He totally lit them up.

I like that phrase. A little off topic, but that's actually a habit of mine whenever the stupid bus driver doesn't turn on the heater, or some windows are open and people don't shut them...

what's the cap for Portland this offseaon? they got rid of Van Exel(14mil) Stoudmire(14mil) and Shareef(14mil)..... they must have a lot of cap for the offseaon.... damn. Dixon is good, but i think the Trailblazers need a player that's consistent. I don't think anyone on the roster has proven to be consistent.

I'm surprised at all the hope around Dixon, at best he's a backup PG/SG. He can't guard SG's because he's 6'3, weak, and not a great athlete, and he can't play PG because he doesn't have the passing skills or mentality to be a PG.

I'm not sure what role Portland will use him as. On the Wizards most of the time he came in when Arenas was on, and was the SG/PG on offense, and the PG defensively, while Arenas was the PG/SG on offense, and SG defensively. Him and Hughes on the court together was never really a good thing lol.

Ratliff signed a pretty big extension last year.

Dixon not going to get alot of minutes because Portland want to play more minutes on the younger players like Telfair, Jack and Webster.

Yer, portland was in deep salary shit before this offseason, they still need to move Ratliff, D Anderson and R Patterson before they have cap space.

But i like the direction they're heading, good nucleus (Randolph, Miles, Webster, Telfair) Hopefully Jack lives upto the early draft talk (that he may go near the end of the lottery) and Dixon is an experienced PG for crunch time.

I like that they've kept Ratliff, great shot blocker, inexperienced guards are gonna leave some holes on defence, and Ratliff seems like a hard worker.

They'll move Derek Anderson i think, and probably keep patterson.

Isn't that exactly what Joel Pryzbilla was doing last season? Can't he do just as much as Theo Ratliff, if not more, on a smaller contract?

I say get rid of Ratliff, let Pryzbilla start, and why not test some young Centers coming off the bench, what have they got to lose? They have an extremely young team and it won't make a serious push towards the playoffs for a while, why not get rid off all your big contracts and let the young guys play?

Pryzbilla actually played better than Ratliff when he starts, I remember there is a period where he posts double double every game, like 14pts and 15rbs. Yea, Pryzbilla should start.
