Hornets Sign Lithuanian
15th July, 2005 - 3:47 am
New Orleans Times-Picayune - The New Orleans Hornets have signed Lithuanian shooting guard Arvydas Macijauskas to a three-year contract.
His agent Marc Fleisher believes he will be a good fit for the team.
"We looked at a lot of teams, but we thought New Orleans is a great place where he will have an opportunity to hopefully contribute right away," Fleisher said. "I think he plays a very exciting flamboyant style of basketball, and I think he will be a huge crowd favorite."
"He's the best shooter outside of the NBA, and a lot of people in the NBA would tell you that he probably would be one of the two or three best shooters in the NBA," Fleisher said. "He's phenomenal at the foul line, and he gets there frequently. He drives very well, and he's much more than an outside shooter. He can put the ball on the floor and can go hard.
Macijauskas is expected to start for the Hornets at shooting guard with J.R. Smith moving to small forward. [READ]
Seems like a good signing, I've seen him a few times and they're right, he can shoot like crazy. They can't exactly get worse, so it's good to see the Hornets taking steps to improve.

Who is this Macijauskas dude??

Macijauskas is crazy. He has crazy shoot like Jae said. Has a similar game to Sarunas. Seems like the Hornets are going good this off season.

I like this signing. Maci is awsome shooter and he will be a great addition for New Orleans.

Actually he's not like Saras at all

Almost all Lithuanians has quite similar playing style but Macas is awesome shooter , Saras is great passer and emotional leader of a team when he's on fire nobody can stop him

I was gonna add that he didnt have his passing skills. I was referring to their style and shooting abilities.

Have the Lithuanians ever won a championship??
Like Euro, World or Olympic?? They have great players as far as I'm concerned.

Is Macijauskas the one with the long hair? (Like Ridnour used to have) The only guys I remember on that team were him, Sarunas and the bald Strombergas guy... I thought Sarunas was the best shooter outside the NBA?

I saw some video of this guy and i wasnt impressed. He didn't look very athletic and he was awkward with the ball.

Yes. with the big, messy, blonde mop.
He is the greatest shooter THIS side of the Atlantic, but his lack of mobility and explosiveness will make him the perfect spot-up shooter for the NBA, at best.
But let me tell you something, he is teh kind of huy that NEVER, and i mean NEVER, misses a relatively uncontested shot. Used properly on offense, he can be lethal. I wanted to see him sign for the Heat. Oh, boy...

Kyle Korver but with a few more, albeight shallow, dimensions. Solid pick-up for the Hornets. Even though he's kinda like Casey Jacobsen.
So yeah, a solid signing of a good shooter even though it doesn't make 100% sense to me.

As much as it may sound surprising, Maci is a FAR better shooter than Korver. I mean, his made treys never even touch the rim. It's always swoosh, straight in the middle. I've never seen anything like that. Plus I've seen him shoot from way out without losing accuracy, so the guy has legitimate NBA range.

He's a normal player.Very quick jumpshot but he may get in trouble against taller guys, because he don't jump very high when he shoots. But every team needs a guy like this.
Sat Jul 16, 2005 9:18 am
Very quick jumpshot
I forgot to mention that. His release is lighning quick. If you have seen Salim stoudamire shoot for Arizona, the release speed of the two players is pretty much the same. Which can only be good.

you use a stopwatch to determine this

Still a Korver-type player. A shooter that can't create his own shot and is fairly one-dimensional.

Sounds like JJ Redick

Indeed. But I've seen so many shots go off that I can make an assumption.

I agree. But on the right team, he's teh difference between borderline playoffs and a deep post-season run. Not the Hornets, though.
