Hi!
Can someone please explain what the differense between unRestricted free agent and Restricted free agent? I notice that Keith Van Horn can terminate what he will be. What does that mean? Can he sign with Mavs even if they are over the salary cap?

Restricted and unrestriced...
1)restricted means that the team can match any offer another team puts up and they get to keep the player.
2)unrestricted means that the player is free to go wherever he pleases.
i think im right.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the "Mid Level Exception"(MLE), but I don't know what that is.

isnt the MLE around 5 million??????? or 3 million????

The Mid Level Exception is the average NBA players salary. I think it's increased with the new CBA, and it allows for teams to sign FAs even if the team has exceeded the salary cap.

No, it's been around for awhile.

It's a different amount this year though... I think it's either 4.9 million or 5'1 million.
