Lakers Trade!

The Pacers Jonathan Bender is indeed on his way to Los Angeles along with the 17th pick in the draft. In return, the Lakers will send Devean George, Slava Medvedenko and a second-round pick. Expect the deal within a day or two of draft day, although it may not be triggered until June 28.

That is awesome. I really hope that goes through, that's a bargain and a half... having 2 first round picks is great, since it's such an evenly deep draft although it could mean that they trade the higher pick for someone else. Hmm.

Good trade for both sides - Pacers get future cap space and a nice defender (although a career underachiever) and Lakers get a potentially very good player with #17 and another one in that guy from Futurama. That is, if he doesn't get injured again. But still, nice trade.

Yay,cool trade even though I don't know much about Bender, but a 17th pick isn't too shabby to say the least.

Boy is that a good deal for LA. I really don't think Devean will improve much at all, and Slava isn't exactly a well-rounded player. If this is true what was Indy thinking?

I think that's a wicked deal for Indiana..I can see Devean George improving in a place where he gets more playing time.

1. Both Devean George and Slava's contracts end next season, freeing up about $8M for Indy.
2. Bender would have to turn into Amare overnight to beat out JON & Ron Artest for either forward spot.

I'm assuming the Lakers are doing it for a draft pick, and the off-chance that Bender is an extremely late bloomer.

I'm assuming Indy is doing it to save $8M.

damn, Slava was my favorite Laker... (N)

Bender's cool though... he has great potential (wasn't he picked 5th in 99?) but injuries this last year stopped what I thought might be a breakout year for him (especially with other injuries/suspensions)

We're only doing this trade so we can make a "Sheed like" trade at the deadline, but I still don't like it. This trade pisses me off, because I think there will be so much talent left at 17, and I would love to get a good rookie in here. I think Ive posted about this trade before in this forum, and explained in detail why I disagree with it, so Im not going to go in to that again. However, I do think George may be an OK asset to the team, he will be a good 3rd teamer in the SF department behind Artest and JJ.

Awesome, for once I have no bad words for Mitch Kupchak, nice trade.

Yay, a big guy up front, although he's skinny, he's not a bad player. Atleast he's better than Grant.

I wonder how the lineup will be now...something like this I'm guessing?

C- Mihm
F- Bender
F- Odom
G- Bryant
G- Big PG from the draft.

Although I'm fairly sure we'll often see Bryant & Butler at the guard spots. I like it, I always managed to trade for Bender in Harrington in Live.

Bender was drafted 5th by the Raptors and traded to Indy for Antonio Davis I believe.

i heard about this trade rumor long time ago...
and heard some of the reason of this trade, i'm not sure about it but correct me if i wrong...

this trade will only work if Pacers and Lakers know that Bender can't play this year due to injury. which means it Lakers doing this trade just to get hold on the #17 pick.... Pacers doing it to salary cap next year...

Now if season starts and Bender can play, it will be a big bonus for the Lakers. and Lakers got a steal in this trade.

Now with Lakers having the 17th pick, they will get a big man (PF/C) with the 10th pick (unless we move up in the draft), and get Jack with the at 17.

You have no idea how many times he has let down Pacers fans by sitting on the side in a FUCKING SUIT!!!! Ive defended Jon Bender so much, but fuck him. I would trade him for a small bag of doritos. I don't give a small FUCK about losing him. Its the draft pick i want.

And no, the reason we want to do it isn't soley for the salary cap, (that is one of the reasons but not the only) Its so we can have enough cap space to make a deal like the Sheed deal last year that the pistons got. We want to get a good player on a bad team for virtually nothing, which is not hard to do at the trade break. That part I like, but I think its too much of a gamble to give up a draft pick for.

Hehe, he won't be injured forever you know. Besides, he might actually start playing, why suit up if you're stuck behind a bunch of other guys anyways? Now he can start. That should be motivation enough.

Say this, sloooowly...bye bye draft pick, buh bye, bye bye bye bye bye.

I agree, the most surprising part is Indiana losing the draft pick...especially considering how sharp their talent scouts seem to be.

I'll have to say...Josh Smith was #17.

I'm surprised that Indiana's giving away the 17th pick as well. Even if they just trade Bender for Slava and George, it's still an advantage for the Lakers, imo. I dunno why, but I see Bender having huge potential. I read about how Walsh really admires Bender and seeing him being a future for Indiana.. Doesn't seem like that's going to happen now. But really, it all depends how well Bender plays next season.

The draft is at best average, so I like the trade for both teams. And LAL could be making a steal if ever Bender actually stays fit (not that it's probable but you never know...).

It would really be funny if Bender had a breakout season this year with the Lakers. It was a good deal for the Lakers regardless if Bender plays or not because with the 10th and 17th pick, that could most likely feel your needs easily if you play your cards right. One thing I would like to say is that the Lakers won't win a title in the next 3 years so they may make the playoffs, but no championship. I've also seen that the coaches that have won championship before, when they return to the league to coach, they have won "0" titles. It does look like some Laker fans are starting to re-appear on the boards now.

I agree but you gotta cross your fingers and hope those picks turn out to be good players. It's hard to say who got the better end of the deal till the season starts. I'm thinking Indiana got a better deal but I might be wrong :?

Does that mean the Jarret Jack could be chosen with 17th pick and Charlie V (Spelling?) can be picked at 10th???

The Lakers had to get more potential and I guess Slava and Devean had worn out their stays... so the lake Show had to deal them.... plus, they are traid bait because of expiring contracts which makes sense...

I wouldnt be surprised if Bender starts.

Even if he's healthy enough to play, his lanky body cannot handle the rigour of 82 games for more than 20 minutes per game... In this aspect, Bender is even worse than KVH...
