I think David Robinson and Tim Duncan have been the most impressive!

Robinson, Shaq, Brand but I think the most impressive was James... just because of his age really.

I agree with James. He came into the league with more hype than ever and lived up to his expectations. Now the load is slowly going to be coming off his shoulders, he has many years to go but sure did show up a lot of people.

The hype alone could've crushed him but he's handled it well... one of the only young superstars I actually like... that being said I told everyone and anyone he'd be a bust based on the 1 time I saw him play in high school.

He wasn't a #1 pick but what about Pau Gasol.

In terms of making their teams better Duncan and Robinson are the runner-ups. Looking at the pure stats, u gotta add Iverson and Shaq.

The improvement the Spurs showed in Duncan's rookie year are a bit deceptive when looking at the numbers alone. After all, the Spurs were missing their two key players for most of the 1997 season. That said, he's still one of the best rookies picked first overall since the lottery was implemented. I'd say Duncan, Robinson, Iverson and James have been the best rookie year performers at the number one pick from 1985 onwards.

Clippers didnt get worse, I misinterpreted this at first too, it was the lockout season, they got even slightly better ( a tiny little bit).

I did look at that, but it was funny to look at the records and see they won less than the year before.

I have to agree with Andrew as far as Robinson, Duncan, James and Iverson, but if I had to pick one I'd pick James. How young he is, how much hype he had, and how much he was forced to (by the lack of hustle by the Cavs) carry his team makes him the best.

i would have to say that david robinson is without a doubt the best on that list with shaq following in second. robinson got the most blocks and points out of anyone and is second in rebounds to shaq. not only that but his team went from 21 to 56 wins. so yeah he is clearly the best of that bunch.

I agree Andrew, especially David Robinson. These guys (especially big men) that come into the league need a few years to develop now, but David came into the league completely dominating. He was better than Tim Duncan as a rookie.

This is coming from someone from SA and I had season tickets Duncan's rookie year.

If he was on the list, Larry Bird would've been impressive too.

Shaq, David, Duncan (though he got David back and healthy), and even Webber are all impressive, but I don't think Kwame had anything to do with Washington's improved record when he joined

Not sure what you mean about Bird, he was the sixth pick in 1978.
