Sarunas Jasikevicius (Unrestricted)

The biggest star in Europe, Jasikevicius has decided to make the transition to the NBA. He's not completely unfamiliar with the American style of play, having spent some time starring for the University of Maryland. After leading Maccabi Tel Aviv to two consecutive Euroleague titles, his stock has never been higher. Some say he's the best shooter in the world, and he's a tremendous leader on the floor. His hard work tends to rub off on his teammates. The downside is that he's already 29 years old and would be considered a below-average athlete by NBA standards. Some suggest he may have lost a step, and should have come over 2-3 years ago, although skillwise he continues to become better each year. There are also questions as to how Jasikevicius will adjust from being the Man in Europe to being a role player in the states. Expect to see over a half-dozen teams go after Jasikevicius, including the Pacers, Celtics, Blazers, Rockets, Heat, Cavs, Kings, and any other team who needs a consumate floor general who can hit an open three.

Does great at the Olympics... it's an interesting move but I think he'll do well in the NBA.

He's money in the bank, and can be a 16ppg - 7apg guy instantly if fiven the minutes... He is definitely one of teh best shooters in the world (along with fellow Lithuanian Arvydas Macijauskas) and is even better than Fred Hoiberg in three point pecentage when uncontested. Lack of athletiscism shouldn't be that much of an ussue, but stamina might be. At 29, it's not easy to adapt to a 82 game marathon and still lead your team in each and every one of them. The team that signs him should have a backup plan just in case. The only certainty is that whoever signs him, will have one of the best 7-8 point guards in the league.

Detroit, pretty pretty please? Trade Arroyo&Delfino for a decent SF/SG and sign this guy. Another finals would be waiting for you. Now, imagine if they drafted a servicable player this year and Darko had a career year ...

Yeah it will be interesting to see him play here. He's been bagged on by Larry Brown as not having enough 1 on 1 skills to compete in the NBA...i don't think it was malicious it was just a statement that Euro ball stresses team mechanics, the NBA 1 on 1 mechanics.

He needs to be careful of what team he joins, to avoid the Jaric @ Clippers scenario.

Too slow to fit their game tempo. Plus he's not signing anywhere if he's not guaranteed a starter's spot. Indiana would be the perfect fit, both for him and the team...

i think it a big upgrade to Atkins... but another question will be if he want to play along side Bryant..

Jasikevicius may be a Euro, but his mentality closely resembles that of Jason Kidd. He's a winner above all, and will play for the team that satisfies his game needs before his financial needs... I don't thing he'll be happy having to pry the ball from Kobe, but who knows... theoretically, Sarunas at LA would make them contenders again, but only if Kobe plays SG, and not every position on the floor.

I still think he'd fit better in Indiana, though...

He is a playmaker, so he'll want the ball on half-court plays, not in Kobe's hands and not in Wade's hands...so those teams have to think about that if they get him.

He's probably better suited for a place that it's need of a playmaker PG, like Memphis (they're done with J-Wil it seems) or Toronto or Utah.

If LA wants another PG and not from the draft, they should like at Antonio Daniels. He's used to working with other superstars and has a strong assist/turnover ratio. Add to that he's a legit 6' 4". That would give LA a physically imposing backcourt of 6' 4" & 6' 7".

everyone says is not a good athelete for nba but he can dunk easly and not a lot of european people at his height can dunk the ball so easly

He's way slower than Bibby... but a far better shooter... even in clutch situations.

isn't the Euro 3 point line a step closer to that of the NBA?

i wonder what he'll play like when he does get to the NBA. As i recall not many Euro players have had success coming from Europe @older ages....the best ones came @ an early age.

I think he's going to have a hard time in the nba. I saw some of his games in the olympics he did not impress me that much. Hes a good shooter but he depends too much on his teammates to set the picks. In int'l they hardly call any illegal screens thats why he plays well.

With his skills, the athleticism is only a minor question. He can really create plays and shoot the three.

The euro three point line is a step closer, but it really doesn't matter... If you lose your shooting accuracy when you take a step back on three point line, then you shouldn't be shooting this shot at all.

He was CLEARLY the best player at the olympics... He left me wondering, why isn't this guy in the NBA again???

He will be great coming off the bench putting in a solid half game or so... as a starter, not yet at least. He's got a great shot and all... maybe playing of rthe Lakers is a possibility... maybe he got links with Divac!
