i remember kemp doing reverse dunks, one hand dunks, mostly alley hoop stuff....its very hard to do alley hoops this day so amare and nash just do the pick n roll style and amare just take it strong and dunks...if amare was in the early 90's he could have trashed the ring like there's no tomorrow....

No he didn't, he competed though.
But dunk contest doesn't mean anything.... Brent Barry won it once  and I think he'll be the only white guy to do it ever in the NBA.

I think that the best in-game dunker right now is Jason Richardson. JC alone one the break is a 360 windmill waiting to happen. If you are talking crowded dunks though, i would go for Amaré today, and Dominique Wilkins as the best of all time.

What do you mean by saying the best dunker. Degree of difficulty or power dunkers?

for me the "best in game dunker" is someone who demonstrates variety, power, punctuation, and inspiration and for me there's only really 2 people who stand above the greats and that's stevey franchise and jrich.. when these guys cut through the lane and slam it down jaws drop then fans go wild.. it's those 2 seconds of jaw dropping that make those 2 the best imo

Jason Richardson or Ricky Davis easily

power dunkers, then you can say Amare.

The FRanchise is a guy i personally love seeing dunk i na game, basicly coz its either on someones head or hes jumping 40" in the air!
and at 6'2 6'3, it looks awesome :D

Dominique was incredible back in the days, and for modern day, I'd have to take Amare as the best power dunker.

I don't think Desmond Mason has done anything really memorable besides in the slamdunk contest. He is good though, but if we are talking in-game dunkers i think that there is quite a few ahead of him. Josh Smith, Richard Jefferson, Baron Davis, Andre Igouadala, Ricky Davis...

IMHO, the best "dunkers" in the league right now are:

1. Vince Carter
2. Jason Richardson
3. Desmond Mason

The best "power dunkers" are:

1. Shaquille O'Neil
2. Stromile Swift
3. Amaré Stoudamire

How was Brent Barry's Dr J dunk any less impressive than Jordan's Dr J? Which was probably his most famous poster, with his tongue out and his hand cocked back and his feet pulled in. Barry didn't have quite the flair, but still 90% of a MJ dunk can get you a slam dunk title.

Kemp was an amazing dunker because he had the acrobatic flair that a lot of guards do these days. Most big men just power dunk, but Kemp would really twist his body in the air to snap up a lame Payton lob and throw it down. He was also a phenomenal blocker, he would literally windmill his arm to block a shot (with that much elevation he probably just could have grabbed the ball out of the air).

VC in his sophomore year was the best in-game dunker i've seen since Kemp, but he hasn't generated much since then.

Currently...not necessarily in order:
- Josh Smith
- Kobe
- Gerald Wallace
- McGrady

Did you ever see the highlight where someone threw up a alley-oop lob for McGrady that was too short, McGrady goes up reaches behind his head with his right arm and brings the ball to his left hand and dunks it? Unreal.

Brent Barry didn't doubble pump it like Jordan did, and he didn't get quite as high either. Look at the dunks yourself, which one do you prefer?

Barry has never done any impressive in-game dunks either, and in that area, Jordan has quite a few...

i agree with you here 100%. imo the human highlight is still the best in game dunker ever.

as for white boys who could dunk, i personally think tom chambers was one of the best ones.

Well by that reasoning, Josh Smith's dunk didn't have the flair of the original 'Nique dunk, so he shouldn't have won the slam dunk title either.

And not to mention Jordan flubbed the first attempt.

Brent wasn't an in-game dunker...but as a dedicated 3 point shooter that's not totally surprising. Anyway it's hard to say now since he's completely past his prime by many years.

Right now, I'd say Jason Richardson, Josh Smith and Vince Carter are the best in the league across the board - they've all got creativity, power, finesse and style in their arsenal of dunks. Shaq remains the best power dunker in the game though, though Amare's right up there too; he's also a bit more creative than Shaq, but Shaq still threatens to pull down the backboard (for the benefit of Tom Tolbert - again) on his most powerful throw downs.

Historically speaking, Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Dr J and Shawn Kemp are just some of the names that can be thrown out there. I think some of those guys became a bit underrated when it became cool to say the previous generations of players were overrated.
