Yao Doesnt get a break!

Mon May 23, 2005 8:31 pm

Rockets C Yao Ming had hoped to spend the summer resting for the first time in his professional career, but a Chinese official said last week that Yao will be required to play for the national team in the Asian Games. Yao has a contract that stipulates he must play for China in the offseason, but his nonstop schedule has him worn down. Despite the official's insistence that Yao will play, there still is hope in Yao's camp that he will be allowed to sit out. . . .

This is bad news for our national team.

Mon May 23, 2005 10:09 pm

that's what you get when your gov. is commy.

I'd tell them to eat shit.

Mon May 23, 2005 10:34 pm

i think the chinese government is selfish. aside from eating half of yao's salary, they also expect yao to be superman and be there whenever they field a basketball team.

certainly, yao had done a lot for the chinese government already. he deserves a break.

Rules are rules I suppose, but one has to wonder how long Yao can keep this up.

This is a serious factor that affects Yao's play in the NBA.
Like this season, Yao could've easily become a 20-10 player with more than 30 minutes a game...

Whatever rocks your boat KevC, if saying that makes you sleep better, so be it.

Hehe, Yao deserves a fricking break, Chinese government should choose one, eat his salary or make him play, they can't have both.

Tue May 24, 2005 2:53 am

dammit. and I thought he'd finally get a break and maybe play better next season (N)

Tue May 24, 2005 2:56 am

but a Chinese official said

judging by that, i hope this is fake. Yao needs rest

Tue May 24, 2005 3:11 am

screw Yao!!! T-Mac is the man in Houston!!!!!! :D

Tue May 24, 2005 4:35 am

ur way off topic....were talking about how Yoa dosent get a break...were not talkin about whos better on the team(idiot) :?

Tue May 24, 2005 9:00 am

There are alot of young and tall players in the Chinese National team but they're useless. So that's why Yao has to play.

I second that :D :D :D

Tue May 24, 2005 12:43 pm

they need Yao to play because the team is HORRIBLE w/o him....hec, he's the only one that knows hot to play....the rest look like amateurs.

Tue May 24, 2005 7:17 pm

This is really bad... the wear and tear of a normal 82 game season is very tiring... add in a playoff appearance and then national duty... boy, he will look even worse next season!
He wont improve much with way too much bball

Tue May 24, 2005 10:30 pm

China does not care for one person's well-being regardless of their so-called superstar stature....China's view is what is best for the majority outweighs what is best for the individual....

personally I think they should rest him....he should play next summer at World Champs, take the next summer off in 2007 and be ready for Beijing Olympics in 2008....

Wed May 25, 2005 8:22 am

I'm sure the Chinese National team is thinking he should be rested for their team and should not play in the NBA.

Why are the Rockets more important than his home country?

Wed May 25, 2005 8:46 am

Yes.

Wed May 25, 2005 9:59 am

This is kinda spam, but I thought it was funny

Wed May 25, 2005 6:57 pm

If he isnt in the NBA, he wouldnt get any better... The Rockets and the NBA is his path to glory. He will only get better in America. Sitting out the Asian games wouldnt hurt... I see the only two legitamate National Team things he should participate are World Champs and Olympics.. and they're every two years so he should get at least 2 years off every four years... if u get what i mean...

Wed May 25, 2005 7:38 pm

no rest for yao, it is confirm a chinese guy told me with a chinese newspaper

Wed May 25, 2005 7:45 pm

Well that's obviously an official source.

Does your stupidity know no boundries? Do you know how sillyly stupid that sounded? :|

Thu May 26, 2005 6:27 am

The Chinese authority will probably force him to play, if Yao backed out, what happened to Wang Zhi-zhi will happen to him. Wang is now a basketball outcast in China, I think Wang Zhi-zhi haven't even returned to China since that happened and if he did return to China them Commies will do some "patriotic re-education" physically and mentally.

Thu May 26, 2005 8:23 am

Wang Zhi-Zhi had been excluded from Chinese National Team due to 2002 WB, he wasn't willing to return to practice with the team.
I remember that was the reason then but now, i'm not sure whether Chinese National Team is keen to use him or not.
