Ron Artest "exclusive" interview by Jim Grey

Fri May 13, 2005 9:36 am

anyone catch this?

pretty much Jim Grey, who has the biggest forehead in the business (not counting bald/balding people) came rolling with the tough questions.

i don't think anything new came out of this interview and probably there is no interview if indiana & detroit are playing in the 2nd round. sneaky espn.

Jae's latest sig has one of the best lines from the interview...

Jae's Ron Artest sig is hilarious, but like you, air gordon, I didn't catch the interview, so I'm hoping someone could fill in some more info.

I think I read some excerpts from Yahoo! sports...I don't think anything there was new. Basically just Artest not complaining about the suspension and he feels remorseful for what he did

Fri May 13, 2005 12:04 pm

Yeah I found it strange that he seemed so remorseful. I remember Dre Naismith saying he heard him on the radio bragging about it basically and being all ghetto, now he's sorry. I guess that's what happens when the novelty wears off, no one buys the CD you're trying to promote and your team is in the play offs without you.

Fri May 13, 2005 12:19 pm

you will get remorsefull i guess.....espescially when your team is playing in the grandest stage without you.......
when i was 16 i failed my english subject and i didn't get to play in the soccer COKE GO FOR GOAL finals.......i was pissed and feeling remorseful too.....seeing my team enjoying the limelight while i was in the stands cheering and felt it could have been me too out there....i can relate to all artest feels right now :(

 that explains everything

You can relate to Artest 'cause you failed a subject? The man started (we've talked a lot about this) the worst episode in the history of the NBA

Fri May 13, 2005 2:48 pm

most of the debates i heard on radio and tv are whether or not you believe that artest is being sincere or think he's changed

i'm not sure if he's "changed" but i do think he's genuinely sorry for the incident.

cyanide- actually i saw the interview and just wanted to hear others opinions about it ;)

personally, i wouldn't want to meet with the guy (david stern in this case) who was responsible for firing me for 1 year and taking away my 1 year's salary. but i guess artest is doing what he can do get back in the league

lol jae... losing over 5mil will change you.

Fri May 13, 2005 2:57 pm

Man, Artest is a regular headcase....

Fri May 13, 2005 5:28 pm

i can relate to artest because he is itching to play basketball......just like me when i was not eligible to play....because i failed an english subject............atleast i didnt start the worst episode in nba history

he kicks and SCORES! GOL! GOL!

Fri May 13, 2005 5:45 pm

when i was 16 i failed my english subject and i didn't get to play in the soccer COKE GO FOR GOAL finals

:P
CoolMac, you could have reasoned to your teacher, "Mi habla no Ingles, que habla Español?"
(Correct my Spanish here if I'm wrong.)

On the brightside, you opponents didn't have the "privilege" of playing against you! :D

Fri May 13, 2005 6:19 pm

"!No hablo ingles! ?habla espanol usted?" .. i'm a bit rusty though.. could be proven wrong

Fri May 13, 2005 6:31 pm

por pabor senior.....hablo me espanol dyutay....."en el principio crio Dios los cielos y la tierra"

hehehhe i hope you guys get that

Sat May 14, 2005 12:24 am

por pabor senior.....hablo me espanol dyutay....."

 "Por favor señor..." then I don't get the second part
"en el principio crio Dios los cielos y la tierra"

In the begining created God the heaven and Earth. You got crio (and it should be creó) and Dios flipped.

I might bring back some old arguments, anyways, when I saw Artest I had a weird feeling. On one side, I still condemn that episode and his behavior, on the other side I felt very angry for he seems to be the only person responsible for what happened...or at least the main responsible, certainly the person who got the main punishment for that. Think about the Pistons, think about Ben Wallace pushing him and still running after him even if he wasn't reacting at all. Think about the Pistons audience and how they easily got away with it and even got the chance to do it again (agains Iverson in the playoff).

I don't know whether the problem is Artest or not. Certainly not all Pistons fans are idiots, but some are for sure. All I can see is an evident protection of the league towards the Pistons, and I would like someone explaining me why an organization shouldn't be held responsible for its fans and their behavior inside its Arena...If what happend last winter was just an episode, then fine, but since there have been other signs of aggressivness inside the Palace in Auburn Hills, including the Iverson Episode and a false bomb warning in the locker room of the visiting team (guess who? the pacers..) then I strongly believe something has to be done also against the Pistons, especially becasue, as of today, I still haven't heard any Pistons Players condemning their fans attitude. All I heard were words of praising.

I don't know whether Artest is truly sorry or not, but it looked like a brain-washed guy who had killed someone without reason, when instead he didn't kill nor mean to kill anyone, and also he was deeply and repetedly provocated.

I am not a Pacers fans, nor a Pistons hater. But I don't see a balanced attitude by Stern towards the two organizations.

Do you?

Sun May 15, 2005 4:29 am

i'm not sure if i want to participate in this discussion again but i'll agree that the pacers were given a raw deal while it seemed that piston organization was given a slap on the wrist

Sun May 15, 2005 5:52 am

Thanks for the transcript, frAn.

I thought Artest sounded professional and reserved, but we'll see what happens next season when he's actually on the court rather than thinking about it off the court. Emotions can change, easily.

Sun May 15, 2005 6:46 am

The look in Artest's Face scares me. Must be the Mustache. He looked Psycho for a moment.

Sun May 15, 2005 7:07 pm

Perhaps because he IS psycho.... :|

EDIT: Perhaps reading the leagues constitution would give insight into what actions are to be taken against unruly fans of an organization etc

Mon May 16, 2005 1:08 pm

thanks for the help out Drex!...anyways artest is kinda psycho looking right now
