Stupid Detroit Fan

Thu Apr 28, 2005 10:18 am

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- A Detroit Pistons fan was charged Wednesday with throwing an object onto the court after Philadelphia's Allen Iverson was struck with a coin during a playoff game.

Iverson was hit Tuesday night during the Pistons' 99-84 victory while he sat on the 76ers' bench with about two minutes left in the game, Auburn Hills police Sgt. Rick Leonard said in a statement.

Dennis W. Pauley, 31, was charged with throwing an object onto a playing surface, and Michael A. Roberts, 26, was charged with occupying a seat without a proper ticket.

They could be sentenced to 90 days in jail and fined $500.

The situation didn't escalate into a confrontation on the scale of the Nov. 19 Palace brawl involving Pistons fans and Indiana Pacers players.

"The Palace staff and security acted quickly to isolate the section where the quarter was thrown from," Lt. James Manning said in a statement. "We are pleased that the basketball players and fans remained calm throughout the incident."

Pauley was arrested Tuesday night, but later released pending a review.

"I want to apologize to the public for what I've done," he said Wednesday.

In the Nov. 19 brawl, Indiana's Ron Artest rushed into the stands after a fan he thought threw a drink on him. Some of his teammates joined Artest in the stands and clashed with fans on the court. Five Pacers players and four Pistons fans were charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

Ron Artest takes a plastic cup and goes mental, Iverson takes a tiny coin and stayed cool. All heart.

Forgetting intelligence and self-restraint for a moment; given the whole incident in November last year and the resulting legal proceedings, and the fact NBA arenas are placing more focus on security since the brawl, why would you go ahead and do this anyway?

If the players don't have good behaviour, how can the fans behave well??

It all started with Ben Wallace pushing Ron Artest..

But Detroit has been known as bad boys.. since 1980's..

It might be the location. I might be wrong, but I read somewhere that Detroit is one of the more crime ridden and poverty stricken places in the US.
