Rockets vs Mavericks (Rockets lead 2-1)

Fri Apr 22, 2005 3:52 am

i'm a rockets fan.. my 2nd fav team after the celtic's
i'm soo sad that they are playing the mavericks..
i just don't see the mavericks beatable by a slower team..

i can only see mav's losing to spurs(who can be fast) and suns..

they have great depth and athletic guys(josh howard, m.daniels, harris)

Breakdown:
Rockets:
Mcgrady - the key, if hes not doubled, and he plays well... rockets can win it, but if hes constantly doubled, some of the other guys have to hit shots
Yao - he'll be a factor unless Dallas heavily runs.. if dallas runs.. he'll still get his season avg..
the guards: wesley, sura, barry, james - they have to shoot well, and play good def.. if they shoot well.. well.. rockets are among the best...
but dallas are among the best too.. soo it doesn't mean they'll win

Mavs:
Dirk - man.. he'll explode.. against weatherspoon? padgett? I think he'll be more effective than TMac..

Once dirk gets going, their team will be fired up.. and when athletic and talented players are fired up.. they're hard to stop.. (daniels, howard, stackhouse, harris) they have size.. it'll be hard for rocket's backcourt to contain these guys..

also.. if they play a slower pace.. you got terry, finley who can light it up.. and Dampier will be fine on def..

i don't see mavs losing.. i hope i'm wrong about rockets backcourt not being able to stop the young guys on mavs... i hope dirk will be played well..

i want rockets to win.. but mavs are 1 of da best teams .. they are faster pace than the rockets..

dont be so negatiive thinking fellow rockets fan.......if you're thinking this way then you're not a true fan.......always remember HOUSTON we DONT have a problem.................................................................................yet

HOUSTON we DONT have a problem

That's what the crew of the Challenger thought as well...

Anyways, as I said in the other thread I am a Mavs bandwagoner and am rooting for Dallas in this one. What can I say, I grew up during the Dallas Cowboys dynasty era...

you only like dallas because of the casinos

More like because of Emmit Smith

i picked Dallas to take this...either way this is the hardest series to predict of all

not really. that's just being realistic. supporting your team even if you think they are going to lost. that's being a true fan.

tough one to predict though. the mavs are beatable depends on how well they play since a lot of players on the team are inconsistent.

i just can't seem to figure out the real winner yet from the two.....they have all the great players, if they are coached by someone else other tha a.johnson.......i guess i would be hands down accepting the rockets to lose.......but since AJ is coaching.....i think we have a strong chance since we have jeff van on our side.....

EDIT: i have been a houston fan since the dream era.....yes i cheered for the likes of sam cassel/robert horry/vernon maxwell and yes sir charles........now that they have Yao.......i'm loving them more.........the love started when MJ retired in 94.....but when Mj returned oh well what can i say, i too like the bulls.......but still GO ROCKETS (Y)

I like the Rockets chances in this just as much as the Mavs and don't think it's going to be a cake-walk for either team. Definately no sweep in this series.

I take it you havn't seen what Avery Johnson has done to this team?

They are playing better in every way ever since Avery took over. He's not afraid to get up in any player's face and when he does it seems to spark the team.

kinda quite in game 1 :D

Go Rockets! (Y)

Sun Apr 24, 2005 11:34 am

T-Mac was dominant, and Dirk got killed in the 2nd half mainly caus of the defense of Ryan Bowen

Can't wait for game 2!

Sun Apr 24, 2005 12:14 pm

Pretty nice game 1, it was mainly a great performance by Houston, but it wasn't completely lopsided as Dallas had a few surges. I like Houston in this series because I really like the combo of Yao/T-Mac. When Yao has a great game, it really helps the Rockets get open shots on the perimeter. When Yao isn't in sync, T-Mac just dominates. I know him mostly for his slashes to the basket, but it always surprises me how well he shoots (even though he does well all the time).

Sun Apr 24, 2005 12:15 pm

McGrady basically carries the whole team on his shoulders because Yao isn't good enough to do that yet. I'm glad McGrady is leading a good team into the playoffs so now he has a chance of making it past the first round. Tmac is one of my fav players, but I don't like the Rockets so it's kind of hard to root for them.

Sun Apr 24, 2005 12:32 pm

Was easy for me too root for him and glad they got the win. He was on fire. It didn't seem like he missed as many as he did.

Sun Apr 24, 2005 12:47 pm

Yup. T-Mac was on fire, he hit every shot possible, even with pressure on him. Great player!

Sun Apr 24, 2005 1:05 pm

this is good for tmac, he is looking more of a team player than kobe is

Sun Apr 24, 2005 4:02 pm

T-Mac was tough and determined, and he pulled out a win for the Rockets. Let's see if Dirk will explode next game.

lol bandwagoner. If you were fan of rockets when the before the dream came OR dream left and before yao came, i would think you as a real rocket fan

Sun Apr 24, 2005 10:05 pm

T-Mac was the playmaker..
even 2-3 players couldn't guard him..

Sun Apr 24, 2005 11:41 pm

I think the Mavs will win game 2 pretty easily. I dont see the Mavs being able to do what they please on offense again. AJ will have this team ready, and Dirk will have a more playoff-ready game. Then they have to steal at least one in Houston. If after game four the series is 2-2, I think Dallas will win.
