Who'll win COY?

Postby AlwaysWhat,NeverWhy on Wed Mar 30, 2005 7:34 am

So who's the top coach for the 04/05 season?

Here's a relative piece: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/s ... id=2024269

My vote is on McMillan. Same team as last year mostly, much better results...

I would vote for Skile or McMillan, but probably D'Antoni will win it.

my buddy. me and coach rick had a little conversation before the pacers-bulls game saturday.

i told him how glad i was that he was the coach and i havent disagreed with one thing he has done so far. and he gave me a really big smile and said he really appriciates that alot.

My top picks
1) Scott Skiles
2) Nate McMillan
_
_
3) Mike D'Antonio
4) Rick Carlisle - look at what he had to go through, and they're still in the race
5) Stan Van Gundy
6) Greg Popovich
7) Eddie Jordan

Good picks but didn't have the whole season: George Karl and Mike Fratello

Scott Skiles would be a worthy choice given what he's done with the Bulls this season and the fact he's achieved it with such an inexperienced core. But I've got a feeling the award will go to the coach of one of the top four or five teams, which isn't such a bad thing but in the case of a Popovich or Van Gundy, the talent level of their teams has a lot to do with their success, moreso Popovich. That's not to say they aren't great coaches or are a big factor in their team's success, but it would be nice to see someone like Scott Skiles, Rick Carlisle or Eddie Jordan win the award.

i think Mike D'Antonio will win it only cause the Suns are really exciting to watch and have been top 2 in the NBA all season record wise. Seattle been great too, it will be a race between Mike and Nate in my opinion.
The bulls just have FINALLY done what they suppose to do..they had the talent all along, I guess its the coach thats making it work but the success in Seattle/Phoenix overshadow the bulls success after a 0-9 start.
Same with Eddie Jordan, Wizards have been talented.
Rick Caslisle has been good too considering how much drama has been there but he already got the award before so time to give it to someone else ;)
Right now Seattle/Phenoix are Championship Contenders so thats what seperates them from everyone

I think Mike D'Antoni will get the award, but it should go to Scott Skiles, he's done such a great job with the baby Bulls! :P

I would say Fratello, but I'm not as biase as you think  I'm going to say Skiles because just like the GRizzlies last season, people werent really expecting them to make the type of noise their making and becoming a playoff team. So my vote goes to them, the reason why I didn't pick McMillian was because he does have two all-stars in Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis even though the entire team isn't really that good, but Skiles had to deal with a young group of guys and no all-stars.

i put karl ahead of poppovich because poppovich's never gonna win it if san antonio keeps their core and winning ways. 50 wins are pretty much expected every year now. there's always a dark house team every year. this year was chicago and seattle and washington.

but he came midway in so his chances have been reduced. But I must say the Nuggets will be a dangerous team to play against in the playoffs if they continue rolling. A first round upset vs seattle, phoenix, san antinio is not out of the question.

but one could argue that jeff bzdelik wasnt working out this year, maybe they just needed a change to get the ball rolling again. it might not have been george karl that turned them around, but the players getting off their asses and starting to play up to the high expectations.

my vote goes to rick carlisle becuase after all the pacers has gone through (suspensions, injuries, etc) the pacers are still winning.

man.. if it wasnt for Karl coming in to make those players start playing up to expectations... (including Melo) then the Nuggets would be doing crap... so theres my arguement. Without Karl, the players wouldnt have started playing well... but thats my opinion.

And it doesnt matter if he came in half way becuase COTY is the best coach and he happened to make the team play awesome and they still are right now. George deserves alot of consideration.

I think Eddie jordan and George Karl should be on the top of the list.
Jordan's wizards made a amazing turnaround this year compared to last. They are a top team in the east next to miami and detroit. And Karl changed the nuggets once he took over. Both of them deserve the award. (Y)

Van Gundy has taken a great team and met great expectations

There are only two players in the Heat above the league average in talent, Shaq and D-Wade, maybe Eddie Jones. The rest are just fill-ups whom SVG has playing their guts out. So I think he's worth consideration for teh award..
