Well said, though there's actually 30 teams in the NBA now. But nitpicking aside, I agree with what you're saying. However, I think in some cases it's a little more than a losing streak, though that's certainly proving to be the final reason...or excuse.

Silas for example had a strained relationship with the front office and ownership. With the team struggling and losing a bit of momentum, it's as good a time as any for the front office to resolve "philosophical differences" with a coach by sending him packing. And they'll point to the record and the streak as proof that it was "time for a change".

I agree that the coaching changes are just too much. The Flip Saunders firing was ridiculous. Look at Scott Skiles. The guy started off 0-9, and he was probably on the brink of getting the pink slip, and look at how successful the Bulls are now. Teams would definitely do better if they can work under a good coach, but it takes time.

Sometimes its not even the coach. I thought flip was an exellent coach in Minnesota, but unfortunately their bigger players (Latrell and Cassel) sucked terribly since Latrell needed to feed his family and the leprechaun was whining about his contract.

The philosophy of "Can't fire the players, so let's fire the coach" really does seem to be more widely accepted by executives and owners these days. Sometimes it works, but often it just places a less experienced guy at the helm of a team that might otherwise have been able to pull itself out of a tailspin.

I agree that Scott Skiles is an excellent example of patience paying off. Chicago could have easily sent him packing and resigned themselves to another losing season under a coach making up his plan on the fly.

Nate McMillan in Seattle is a good example of what can happen when you stick with a good coach....the Sonics aren't that talented of a roster but McMillan has done well to turn it around in Seattle....

but the firings of Flip Saunders and Paul Silas are just ridiculous....

I'm also hoping the Warriors have some patience with Montgomery, as with the core that they are slowly building, and with some continuity, they could follow the Bulls' path this season....
