Kobe scored 40 points and had 8 assists in a win against the Jazz!
Chucky and Caron both scored more than 20... Lamar sat out.
that is all!
Wed Feb 16, 2005 5:28 pm
8 dimes and a respectable FG% from him. that's all thats good for me
Wed Feb 16, 2005 8:01 pm
chucky attempted over 13 3's

Why not post this in the official sticky Kobe Bryant thread? Oh no, it has been removed.
Nice game for Kobe, good to see him back on the court and back at the level where he used to be.

This is what drives Kobe, trying to prove others wrong. THis was what injected motivation in Michael, and at this very moment Kobe is the only one facing the same demons Michael faced.
But to really feed from it, Im afraid the incidents at Lakers may not really give Kobe the chance to build this tea up. Lakers seems too unstable at the moment.
This was a stellar perfomance for Kobe. It really cannot be underestimated... He scored 40 points, giving Lakers the win over struggling-Jazz yet but nevertheless it seemed that the team can play the ball. Remember, this is AFTER Rudy has retired.
His FG% was perhaps his best of the season for such numbers, being 63%, and with eight assists he contributed about 56+ points for Lakers. THis is a bit more than a half.
Anyways, very good for Kobe. All-Stars matchup shall be interesting indeed

Now that you mention the All-Star matchups, according to some NY writer (I dont know if I can trust him since its a NY writer) Kobe asked Greg Popovich to let Kobe only play 10 minutes and let Steve Nash play so that he can get his rest his ankle needs and get better prepared for the second half of the season. I hope he will play though.
Thu Feb 17, 2005 3:27 am
Yeah well he better make these ten minutes worth the while for his fans
Just look back in time... 97-98 Kobe being the benchman of Lakers, starting all-star in the weekend, being talked about as the perhaps-next-mj...
I remember Magic being one who commented the game (and man I love to listen to him talk lol

), talked how he wants Michael to remain in the league for one more year and not retire since it would be important for Kobe. Kobe shined in all-stars game, but was burned against Michael in defense, and this was one of the things Kobe needed to learn before taking the torch from Michael.
Sadly such an exchange never "really" happened since Mike retired. When he returned as a Wizard Kobe was already at his best.
Kobe is young still though, and not 38 for sure lol

But the all-stars game against LeBron would be fun to watch. They can say all they want about how "easy" they will take the game, but even if they wont say it, there is a competition if they both play for twenty-thirty minutes or so.
Its strange really, imagine in ten years or so, when Kobe is about to retire in my opinion and LeBron is a bit older than Kobe is now. Boy do we have times to wait for
This sort of electricity is what NBA really needed, slump left after Bulls dynasty needs to be filled with people going for games again and broadcasts getting more and more worldwide.
Damn I cant wait for the future when all NBA games would be broadcasted online and such

i find that highly unlikely.. it's KB 8, he's a competitor.. he's gonna try to outduel everyone

What worries me is that Kobe had a killer game, a few others played well and they had problems with a shitty Jazz team that did not have Boozer or AK47.
Problems on the Horizan?

Maybe, but a W always help your confidence
Thu Feb 17, 2005 10:13 am
Dont forget the Lakers played without a role player themselves.
Thu Feb 17, 2005 5:26 pm
Lakers were without their second best guy in lamar!

Lakers add Rambis, Shaw to coaching staff
February 17, 2005
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- Former players Kurt Rambis and Brian Shaw were added to the Los Angeles Lakers' staff Thursday as assistants to head coach Frank Hamblen for the rest of the season.
Hamblen was an assistant before taking over as head coach this month when Rudy Tomjanovich stepped down because of health concerns.
Rambis and Shaw join Larry Smith, Mike Wells, Melvin Hunt and Chris Bodaken as assistants under Hamblen.
In addition to having played for the Lakers, Rambis and Shaw have worked for the team in other capacities -- Rambis as vice president of business and basketball integration, and Shaw as assistant director of scouting.
Before assuming his front-office role this season, Rambis served as an assistant coach on Phil Jackson's staff for three seasons. Before that, he worked in the team's front office, was an assistant under Del Harris, and served as interim head coach to finish the 1999 season. He played for the Lakers during the 1980s.
Shaw played for the Lakers for four years before retiring in September 2003.
- btw... the creation of this thread... is because we used to have too many about kobe
Fri Feb 18, 2005 2:36 pm
Yeah, they've decided they're going to stick with Frank for the remainder of the season. They brought these guys in to have some more assistants familiar with the triangle. Then we've got Devean George suiting up for the first time all year the week after the All-Star break. So i'm expecting to see a different Laker team the second-half of the season. Whether that's good or bad I got to wait and see.
With the direction we seem to be moving, though I wouldn't be surprised if Phil did return to LA next year. His girlfriend Jeannie Buss has been the biggest supporter of it, and said she won't leave LA if he takes another coaching job elsewhere.

One of the most loved? I wouldn't go far to say that. There's definitely no love for Kobe these days, as the media keep bashing his reputation. Sure, the Kobe fans love him, but that's it...

So there IS love cyanide.
Anyways, Im not against discussing one of the best players in the league today, and doing that in a separate thread. For many years Ive been following the league with neutral view, enjoying the game itself. No love nor hatred for Kobe, but I do enjoy his game.
The guy is in a state in which he has to prove media wrong. If he does that, then he is MVP in my book.

The media doesnt need to love him, its all about the fans. And yes among the fans he is still one of the most populair players in the game.
