The Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to announce that longtime head coach Flip Saunders has been fired after a dismal 25-26 start to a season in which many thought they would contend for the NBA Championship.
"Saunders was not coaching the team at its early afternoon practice Saturday. Instead, the practice session was run by Vice President for Basketball Operations Kevin McHale, and Randy Whitman, an assistant coach. It is expected that McHale, Saunder's college buddy, will be the replacement."

Riot wrote:Okay, I am seriously pissed off here. Flip was the 2nd longest tenure coach in the league behind Jerry Sloan. It wasn't Flip's fault either, it was the players. Not to mention Garnett and Saunders are very close and Garnett just 1-2 days ago called Flip the best coach in the league. I think this move will make Garnett very upset.
Also, it says McHale will be the new coach. Does he even know how to coach?![]()

horrible move, unless KG doesn't get upset and the players react to the new change.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders was relieved from his coaching duties and will be replaced by Kevin McHale, vice president of basketball operations, the team announced Saturday.
Saunders will be reassigned within the Timberwolves organization, the team said. The reasons for his removal were not immediately announced.
McHale will take over the head coaching duties for the remainder of the season.
Saunders was named head coach on Dec. 18, 1995, taking over for Bill Blair.
In more than nine seasons, Saunders posted a 411-326 record and was the winningest coach in franchise history, the team said. He directed the Wolves to a team-best 58-24 mark in 2003-04 that included a first ever appearance in the Western Conference finals.
On Dec. 1, 2004, Saunders became the eighth person in NBA history to have coached his first 700 games with the same organization.
McHale started his career with the Timberwolves in 1993-94. He has served as a special assistant to the coaching staff, broadcast analyst and assistant general manager before he was named vice president of basketball operations in May 1995."

Maybe the Lakers or Knicks can get Flip now.
SbHZmAFiA wrote:Well that was a bad move I have to admit. If anything, they shouldve did something with Sprewell. I know KG is pissed off, and I can imagine him leaving Minnesota in the off-season if the team deosnt do nothing at all.
Riot wrote:That's what I honestly thought when I first heard this. But finding out Flip will still be with the Wolves atleast this year reassured me. KG is loyal and he said he will spend the rest of his career in Minnesota, I still believe him. He knew Flip wouldn't be there forever it's just a bummer that Hudson, Sprewell and Cassell costed Flip his job. Maybe KG will get in their face about it now.

Looks like he would do anything to keep KG in Minny

Now, why would Riot put "Riot:" in his own message?
