Karl Malone Retiring After 18 Seasons
Associated Press
SALT LAKE CITY - Karl Malone is retiring, ending a career in which he became one of the NBA's greatest power forwards and was No. 2 on the league's all-time scoring list. Malone, who teamed with guard John Stockton for 18 seasons with Utah to form one of the NBA's greatest duos, will announce his retirement Sunday, the Jazz said Friday.
The 41-year-old Malone underwent knee surgery last summer and has not played since last season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He joined the Lakers in an attempt to win an elusive NBA championship, but failed to do so despite playing with Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.
Malone will announce his exit at a news conference at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City.
The Jazz had no comment Friday on the decision by Malone, whose agent said last week it was possible Malone might return to action with San Antonio.
I really like to see Malone retires than see him piggyback riding with the Spurs.
And as i said he is the BEST POWER FORWARD IN NBA for me (in my era)

Means he's not going to the Heat? And what do the Jazz have to do with Malone, as he isn't a part of them anymore for over a year?

And if the Spurs do win a championship...

He's played with the Jazz for all of his career... of course they have alot to do with him. Even if he did play for LA last season, doesnt mean he cant finish his career with a press conference in Utah...

It saddens me to see him leave the game without a NBA championship or scoring title after so many years. He was my favorite player behind Kobe on the 2003/2004 Lakers team, its just fucked up that his relationship with Kobe all of the sudden got screwed up.

Sad news man...
I wanted to see ONE more season...
I would have loved to see him play with the HEAT, we would have gotten somewhere...

anyways... nice line by Steve Kerr:
'the fact that Malone chose to try to win a championship rather than set a hallowed individual record speaks volumes about his character'

But right now he's doing neither
I'm gonna miss the big fella

He should've stuck to the Spurs.

its sad he missed out on both... but he wasnt selfish and went to a crap team for the scoring record. instead became 4th option and go through a lot of crap to make it to the finals one last time!

Yeah, it's like I loose a friend... the worst thing now would be Gary Payton to retire...

He will be missed

I had a feeling he'd opt for retirement when he become a free agent and still hadn't committed to a team by the new year. No ring, no scoring record, no matter - the Mailman still makes a strong claim for the "Greatest Power Forward" label.
