With players demanding big paydays for competing in the dunk contest - LeBron James wanted a cool million to participate - no wonder the league is still scurrying to find contestants with All-Star weekend only two weeks away.

Easy Lebron, it's not like you're poor or anything, I mean with his contract + all the endorsments, I don't see why he needs so much just to go dunk.
Mon Feb 07, 2005 2:00 pm
Sounds like Spree but him up to it
That Bastard!
Just dunk it
Mon Feb 07, 2005 2:09 pm
I thaught LeBron was different than that. And i never knew that playersd wanted money to do the dunk off. Thats jus pathetic.
Mon Feb 07, 2005 2:29 pm
He probably doesn't want to go in the contest. He's already playing in both games on the weekend.
My guess is that the priced himself out of the competition.

Yup, I don't think he would win anyways, and people would jump all over the fact that Jordan won one, and Lebron can't...
If not, well maybe he wants to help Spreewell out, because he heard about his money troubles.
Mon Feb 07, 2005 3:00 pm
Stupid fuck, who does he think he is.
I hope the league refuses to pay him.
Anyways, he wouldn't have won it.
Mon Feb 07, 2005 3:05 pm
Well, this is a New York columnist who normally have "unnamed" sources that "overheard" something. I never believe what they put it, it's always some stupid garbage.
Mon Feb 07, 2005 3:19 pm
oh its from a new york paper..bah i will wait for a better source, every week some new rumors with the knicks, every week, nothing happens..
Mon Feb 07, 2005 3:33 pm
Yeah well, there would be sooo much more people wathing if he did the contest, so I guess he deserves it, but that dude has soooooooo much money already, he doesn't need any more.
Mon Feb 07, 2005 3:42 pm
Only players with three years experience or less can enter, so that eliminates some of the game's best jammers, including the Nets' Vince Carter.
What kind of rule is that? If you can dunk, you can dunk. Yeah it gets harder as you get older, but say someone comes out of high school. They're probably 19 years old. In 4 years they'll be 23, that's not too old is it? Especially if they are a great dunker.

he'll use tht million dollars to bribe the judges so he will definately win if he enters.
Mon Feb 07, 2005 3:54 pm
they removed the rule i think.
Since ricky davis was in teh dunk contest last year.
meh to Lebron wanting 1 million dollars to do the dunk contest, his dunks are overrated.
He'd probably demand they change the gund arena to 'LeBrons magnificent spectacular arena', when his contract is up.
Mon Feb 07, 2005 7:18 pm
Lol...like 90 million at the age of 18 isnt enough. I highly highly doubt they will even concider giving him the money for 3 or 4 dunksm but you never know with David Stern.
Mon Feb 07, 2005 7:30 pm
personally i dont have a problem with him asking for the money...none of us know what he does with his money anyways...maybe he has a costly habit like smoking crack.
and from all the interviews i have seen of lebron, he certainly doesnt seem like he would say anything like having to feed his family...more likely it would be him having to help feed Diop.
Mon Feb 07, 2005 7:34 pm

Geez mate we're only talking $1 million. Hiring a paddock for him to graze between games would eat that up very quickly.
Mon Feb 07, 2005 8:50 pm
Does he understand that if he won the contest, hed get more than a million as a reward from his endorsement ppl... jeebers... so greedy!
Mon Feb 07, 2005 9:16 pm
Shit ill go dunk for free, Im 6"10 And i can lay down some pretty nasty dunks, Under the leg dunk is easy but i still cant get my arm in the rim.
LeBron isnt even all that good at dunking he is just good at Fast Breaking to get a dunk. You dont see him dunking in traffic too much like kobe does.

See, people on these boards still don't get it...NO ONE WANTS TO SEE YOU DUNK.
Let me simplify it, no one cares, bothers, gives a shit about your dunks because you're some random person who says he can dunk and is 6'10 but has not made the NBA nor is he likely to do so.
Take my advice & just shush, if we wanted to see you dunk, we'd pay you.K0be4mvp wrote:Lol...like 90 million at the age of 18 isnt enough. I highly highly doubt they will even concider giving him the money for 3 or 4 dunksm but you never know with David Stern.
You never know, he might just do it since LeBron's the new poster boy for the NBA. Just to garner more views & earn money, he just might end up paying.
Tue Feb 08, 2005 12:47 am
hey, isn't just a way for LeBron to tell people that he doesn't want to participate? I mean, he's already rich, and he doesn't seem that greedy to look for another million, unless Carlos Boozer learnt him some tricks in his rookie year
Tue Feb 08, 2005 1:08 am
That theory was mentioned, it's very possible.
I don't see why not just say no though, I think he's got a double meaning to the $1 million dollar price tag, if they say no, he says he wanted to but they didn't want to pay him. And if they do say yes, he's even happier since he'll just do some mediocre dunks & be a million bucks richer.
A win win situation.

o come on u kno hes a good dunker. hes top 3 in most dunks per game and hes a guard. and to say that he doesnt make nice dunks is jus stupid. i hope u saw him pull a giant facial on damon jones a couple days ago cause that was one of the nicest dunks ive seen in game... and that can be considered in traffic cause he literally jumped OVER damon jones
he doesnt hav to be MJ and pull a FT dunk in game to be good, giv him some respect
Tue Feb 08, 2005 6:42 am
I don't know about jumping over him what happened was Damon Jones was foolish enough to get in the way, then when he saw James was too high he just ducked down and Lebron lost his momentum colliding but still reached over to dunk.

Classic.

I don't think we can really judge how a player will do in the dunk contest because of what they do in games. How many times in a game do they have that much time to pull off a dunk, and if they were in a game it's not like they get another chance if they miss...
So for all we know LeBron may or may not be the best dunker in the league, heck, how many of you knew Fred Jones was such a good dunker before he won the contest?

Wow is everyone allways this uptight on these forums, Well i guess not everyone had a good childhood.
