Larry Hughes out 4-6 Weeks

Postby fgrep15 on Mon Jan 17, 2005 8:34 am

The Washington Wizards President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the Wizards star guard Larry Hughes will miss 4-6 weeks after fracturing his right thumb in the fourth quarter of the Wizards’ 108-103 victory over the Phoenix Suns Saturday night.

“I am very disappointed that this happened, but I have full confidence that my teammates will play well while I’m out,” said Hughes. “I look forward to getting back as soon as possible.”

This is terrible, this puts a lot more responsibility into Arenas hands in terms of carrying the team. Arenas is going to have to become the triple double machine he was last season again because he's now the only playmaker in the backcourt. I'm speculating that Jarvis Hayes will be starting, which will hurt the already weak defense a lot.

It defiantely hurts a lot, the Wiz were on pace to possibly even win 48-50 games in the season, and Hughes who's very important on many aspects to the team goes down. Those 2.9 steals, very good man to man defense, clutch performances, and 5.4 assists or so will be missed. The team has scorers that can fill the scoring void, but the other things are more important.

Wow, this hurts the Wizards badly. Dixon has been playing well though so I hope they insert him as a SG for a while.

This injury ruins Hughes' chance for an All-Star appearance (N)

The only problem with going with Dixon is the defensive disadvantage, agaisnt a guy like Manu it can be fine since he's only about 6'4 really, but going with Dixon and Arenas in the backcourt isn't going to work out.
Hayes will probably be starting, and Dixon is more of a score in bunches off the bench guy anyways.

ouch, this one will hurt, that's a long time he's out for, this might equate to a dropoff in playoff placings for Wizards

Hughes is very injury prone. He's had some sort of downfall every year he was with Washington.
