He's a veteran insurance policy, nothing more, nothing less. He's a temporary solution to the potential problem of Redd or Mason being unavailable for a few minutes here and there. Those guys are the youthful players, Gill is the established vet who has enough left in the take to fill in every now and again.

It's sad to see former stars like Kendal Gill and Kenny Anderson reduced to this. They deserve better but that's what we get due to the current NBA salary situation.

Kenny Anderson is starting for the Hawks though. Sadly, it's not the same role he enjoyed as a starter for the Nets and Blazers back in the 90s.

I dont think its becuase of the salary situation... its more to do with the teams moving forward. I loved the 90's, but I also know that every generation has to move on as the new comes through.

Agreed, but it's a shame at how some of these players have been reduced to minor roles so abruptly.

which ones? anderson did have that one year in boston but other then that his career/role has been in decline for some time now. the same can be said about gill

if you're a bucks fan, then you would be aware of kvh being injured. at least Gill is a proven vet that can give some quality minutes

True, but I was referring more to an abrupt decline. Kenny Anderson has gone from a starting point guard who puts up decent numbers to a point guard who starts because basketball requires five players per team to be on the floor at all times. Anfernee Hardaway has never been same since his injury woes, but he's gone from being the third or fourth guy who turns back the clock every now and again to a forgotten reserve in the space of a year.

Dikembe Mutombo's numbers in 2002 weren't too awful compared to his career highs. The next year he was relegated to the bench and is enjoying a similar role this year. Alonzo Mourning was headed down that path but his numbers aren't looking too bad now that he's starting, given his minutes.
