Agree or disagree this is how Marc Stein ranks them for the start of the season:

More or less what I would do right now... I like Marc Stein a lot, I think he's the best right there besides David Aldridge (Y)

Miami was overrated also with Golden State.

Utah is too high at number 9. Boozer is good, and mehmet is a better shooting ostertag, but they wont be a playoff team this year.

Lakers will be a clone of last season's Magic. There is no chance of them making the playoffs, especially in the West.

Denver is so freakin overrated...what did they do, bring in Kenyon Martin who became a All-Star thanks to Jason Kidd.

Same with Utah....they didnt even make the playoffs last year, and who did they add? oooh....The bum Mehmet Okur and some other scrubs like Carlos Boozer, I wont be to surprised if AK47 leads them to 40 wins.

Phoenix has a okay team on paper, but I would like to see them win with my own eyes, I dont see any player that is capeable of being a leader of the team, they probably wont make the playoffs.
It's only out of respect for Kobe's prodigious talents and Rudy T's ability to connect with stars that LA is this high. Seriously: LA's smallish roster is no lock for a playoff spot.

Please...What a lame excuse to rate them lower then those 3 scub teams like Denver, Utah and Phoenix...who barely or didnt even make the playoffs last year. When everyone healthy...the Lakers have 1 of the deepst teams in the entire league.
Marc Stein is a joke, period.

Lakers will be a clone of last season's Magic. There is no chance of them making the playoffs, especially in the West.

Great logical observation, smartass.

Nuggets, Rockets, Kings, and Jazz are rated too high. I think the Grizz should be ahead of at least 2 of those teams.

lol...awesome! Nets are 19, ahead of teams that are expected to be playoff contenders. I love Marc Stein :D

Miami rated way too high, Spurs should be first.

They look pretty good to me other than that.

rank #13 i said was okey. give me teams that will bumped lakers down. give me teams that will be rank 13, 14, 15 and so o til you place the lakers on want you think the proper rank of lakers.

Miami way to high to see a big hole in forward position esp the PF with Laettner and Haslem. if they find a decent PF and a good SF backup then maybe they can even rank #4

I pretty much agree with it except that the Lakers are rated somewhat high for not having what they did last year but that's just my opinion :!:

1. Spurs
2. Minny
3. Detroit
4. Indiana
5. Memphis

you always have to give the defending champs the highest ranking in the beginning of the year no matter what happened with all the other teams in the summer

I agree with Stein's rankings except I'd stick Memphis in front of Dallas and Sacramento in front of my Rockets (on the basis that Sacramento is relatively unchanged while the Rockets have an overhauled roster to try and mesh).

Yeh, i agree with the rating as well, especaly Detroit, they are No.1 team by miles!
I cant agree with Mr.T, There is no way Utah is overrated! Have you seen their team last year who won 42 games!!!! Dont base your assumptions on the fact that they didnt make the playoffs. Any team who is under .500 should not be concidered as a playoff team in any case. Not only that, but they brough in 2 guyz who are team players.
Infact, they made better improvments then Denver, even though Denver has an All-Star PF. Have you read the new latley? Nene and K-Mart are alredy fighting, their egoes are was too high.
Bobcats should be second last because the Raptors have Vice, who is the biggest ass in the NBA and it will effect the team.

But to say Utah is the 9th best team in the nba. OK they added boozer. Mehmet Okur isnt anything significant, he was behind Elden Campbell in the Pistons rotation in the finals. And they are ninth? I don't think they are worthy of that.

The difference between The lakers and utah is kobe. And thats a pretty big difference. Utah won 42 games last season by sneaking up on alot of teams, that wont happen this year. I'll be suprised if they get to 35 win mark.

Yeah Matthew is right, when you look at their starting 5, they are pretty much alike.

You have both Vlade Divac and Mehmet Okur who can knock down the outside shots, Carlos Boozer and Brian Grant who work hard in the hustle and do the dirty work, Lamar Odom and Andrei Kirilenko are both very versatile. The only clear atvantage I see for the Jazz is Carlos Arroyo over Chucky Atkins, I give you that much.

But like Matthew said, the Lakers have Kobe Bryant...Utah doesnt, the best they have to offer on the 2 spot is Radja Bell/Matt Harpring/Gordon Giricek, all three are okay role players...but nothing more then that. Also, the Lakers bench looks stronger then Utah has to offer. Im not saying that the Jazz suck, but the Lakers are stronger, more experienced....and have a better teamleader then Utah has.
