Drexler Considering NBA Return, who isnt ?

The usual route from the NBA to the Hall of Fame is a one-way ticket, not round trip. But former great Clyde Drexler, named to the Hall last weekend, wants to get back on the court.

Drexler, 42, said Thursday is he seriously considering returning to the NBA and lists the Nuggets as a possibility.

"If someone with a chance to win a championship would call, I'd consider it," said the 6-foot-6, 222-pound Drexler, a 10-time all-star who retired in 1998. "I know I could do it."

Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe, a former teammate of Drexler's, is intrigued by the idea. He also has a roster spot available for a backup shooting guard and money available under the salary cap.

Wow... Andrew's dream of the NBA reverting back to the early 90's appears to be happening

I'll admit, I'm a huge fan of the 90s and have a lot of great memories of the NBA during that decade, but I don't really want to see guys like Drexler come out of retirement. There are some things about the 90s that I miss apart from the players themselves - things like more even conferences, teams with unique jerseys and colour schemes and the NBA on NBC - but I don't want to see the 90s recreated with players in their 40s. ;)

As far as Drexler is concerned, if he wants to come back and someone (I guess that someone is Denver) is interested in his services, I say why not? At the very least, it wouldn't be unprecedented. Still, I wonder if his comeback, should it become official, will draw the same criticism as that other famous guard who wore a number in the 20s did when he decided to suit up again.

I dunno about Clyde, he has been out of the league since Houston lost to Utah in 1998. That's more than 6 years ago. Clyde was still solid, and he's probably the type of guy who would remain in shape. He's no Michael Jordan and with Clyde's athleticism gone, what does he have left?

Having said that, I like Clyde the Glide, and I don't mind seeing the older guys give it another shot, they have a certain charm, it gets the fans initually interested even if the players aren't performing. 6 years is a long time though, and I'm sure there's some kind of disparity between the mind and the body.

I think Clyde had a couple of good seasons left when he retired, but the Rockets weren't going anywhere, and I doubt he was about to keep jumping ship/bandwagon in order to win another championship.

Just checking his stats, he still managed to put up 18, 5 and 5 in his final season. But over his final three years he played 52, 62 and 70 games.

I think its a terrible idea to come back after 6 years when you struggled to stay fit in your final seasons. I don't think he's that serious, if he's thinking straight.

Think that bad? I heard from my league sources (Peter Vescey style) that Stockton will be coming back to play with LA if Malone rejoins us! Heck, I think he might bring Hornacek, Jeff Malone and Mark Eaton along for the ride too.

The sight of John Stockton in a Lakers jersey means I could die a happy man.

The sight of Mark Eaton in a Lakers jersey means I could die prematurely.

If Stock does return to the NBA... will the short shorts trend be revived? You know how fashion trends come back every 20 years or so...

LOL yeah the trend will be revived because when Stockton was around a few years ago everybody copied his shorts! Hey, if Drexler comes back, at least there'll be one other guy wearing short shorts :P
