I come to pay patronage to Vlade the great passing center. His career finds him in the top players totals for steals, blocks and rebounds. He is even up there in assists and his scoring was averaged about 13. Only 1 allstar appearacne I know but he had great olympic run and great five years in country before NBA. He was the first euro to have long career as starter, drafted 89.
So do you think when his time comes to leave NBA, he will be a hall of famer? I am not saying he is a Kareem Abdul Jabbar but in his own way he is greater than just drawing fouls and being a big body.
Please, your thoughts on this.

Is Divac a Hall-of-Fame Player?
No.
No, no no.
No, no, no, no no
No.
He's a decent player but I don't think he's ever done anything to warrant being a Hall Of Fame guy. There's guys alot better than him that haven't been admitted, and there's probably current superstars who won't get in either. It's just not that easy from what I can tell.

Thank you Jae but I forget to add, he lead all centers in assists for 9 seasons and was top 10 in FG % a few times as well. More opinions please.
The site basketballreference.com has his name in the HOF monitor of most likely current players, based on their stats yes.
He also had several games where did 5 X 5 very rare. 5 of everything including block and steal. kirilenko has been the first guy to do it this year since divac in 95.
Thu Sep 09, 2004 5:21 pm
also by the way who are the guys who are better but not in the hall?
Thu Sep 09, 2004 7:09 pm
I'd give him consideration... but I'm a biased Yugo. Divac pretty much paved the way for Euro's in the NBA, and NBA GMs started to pay attention to what was happening over seas after he arrived. Then we had Kukoc and Petrovic, and many other that followed. Not sure though if we should be thanking Divac for guys like Bagaric and Stojko Vrankovic though
His statistics are respectable, he has always been an unselfish big man, more of a leader than most people will ever know.

Yeah he deserves it along with Arvydas Sabonis, its not just the NBA Hall of Fame. But the Worldwide Basketball Hall of Fame.

pretty much agreed

By the way, wasnt Detlef Schrempf the first European player in the NBA? Or am I confusing it with him being the 1st ever Euro player to make the All-Star team?
Thu Sep 09, 2004 11:55 pm
You are correct, I never realised it, I thought he came about in the early 90's with the Pacers but according to NBA.come his first season was 85-86 with Dallas.

Sabonis doesn't deserve it based on his NBA play though. European, yes.. but we're not giving NBA HOF places for that do we?
Fri Sep 10, 2004 4:35 am
Divac should not be inducted into the hall of fame before Sabonis is in it.
Based on their nba careers neither of them should be in it, but i (and all of you should

) have great respect for them as they are the guys who made going to the nba out of europe much easier and more common

Is true that jordan or duncan or shaquille have greater role on championship team, but Divac influence whole countries of Europe. His style of play, like a point guard, that was unique. He made scouts look to our countries for next wave of player crop.

demilioso wrote:Damnit, that's really what it is when it comes down to it!
well actually its not, there are so many other people in it like male college coaches, female college coaches, even harlem globetrotters and people from that kind and of course commisioners and inventors

Michael Jordan is the most marketable sports star in history. His name alone has influenced people around the World, not just Europe. Also, he and Shaquille O'Neal consistantly put up fantastic statistics throughout their entire careers. Vlade is a decent player who happened to have a good passing game. He's not a Hall of Fame player, just some foreign bloke with a beard.

How about adding a choice of just plain "No."
There are many centers out there of his caliber that are more deserving. (Mutombo?/Mourning?)
Fri Sep 10, 2004 6:58 am
Heh yeah, seeing asthough there's not 1 option that says "No, because he doesn't deserve it"
Fri Sep 10, 2004 7:30 am
His career stats:
11.9 points per game
8.3 rebounds per game
3.1 assists per game
30.1 minutes per game
You could find a hundred past and present players who have better stats and just as much impact on the game.
Fri Sep 10, 2004 7:44 am
I try to add No WAY but it let me have three for some reason.
Is totals that impress, not averages, last two seasons not so great overall because of age. But assists going up. Mourning and Mutombo were good too, but different than Vlade, every player who come from country like Jaric and Radmanovic or Songalia and Peja see Vlade as idol.
Fri Sep 10, 2004 8:04 am
80% of all NBA players see God as their idol, do you want to put him in the Basketball Hall Of Fame too?
Fri Sep 10, 2004 8:05 am
So since Yuta Tabuse is the only Japanese player, he should be in the hall of fame in ten years, because all the other japanese wannabe NBAers look up to him?
Fri Sep 10, 2004 9:23 am
The Hall Of Fame is a joke nowadays. No longer is it that only truly great players are let in. There could end up being a lot of players playing now that make it to the Hall eventually. If you're not first ballot, then you're second ballot; if you're not second, you're third; if you're not third...
I imagine that Divac will make it, though his career as a whole doesn't give to much justification on why he should be in the "Hall" which features the names of Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, and eventually...Michael Jordan.
Fri Sep 10, 2004 12:48 pm
I think he deserves it on what he's done for Eurods in the NBA, but he just doesn't match up statistically with the other HOF'ers...
Fri Sep 10, 2004 12:50 pm
i voted yes.... i agree with stevan's first post.
i don't think divac gets any consideration if he was an american born player
of course he wasn't as good as some have mentioned and as payton, er gloveguy mentioned, the hall isn't exactly an exclusive club anymore
Fri Sep 10, 2004 2:22 pm
yO...No OFFENCE BRO BUT...
if players were inducted into the hall of fame merely because of their marketing and influence on basketball... Yao should be in there straight away. Full stop!
