Which point guard is the best out of the 3? All 3 of them are pretty similar in their playing style and all 3 are capable in taking over games in crutch time. All 3 are franchise players too

I would say Baron Davis. I would also put Francis in front of Marbury because Marbury shoots too much as a PG. If he passed the ball a little more than he shot the ball then he would be top of the list. Baron and Francis shoot alot too, but they find ways to be a better player than just shooting the ball. Francis and Baron have more of a quick crossover than Marbury. Whenever I watched Marbury play on the Knicks, I mostly saw him trying to cross somebody over then pullin' up to shoot a 3. He is changing his ways though because he is driving alot more. When he plays the weaker PG's in the league he will drive alot more, but if he plays someone like Baron then he would most likely shoot more. I think Francis is a better 2 guard though, so that would put Marbury ahead of him.

I'd like to see one or two more good seasons out of Davis before I put him ahead of Marbury.

i gotta go with davis with this one.. all of them are similar players indeed and it's really hard to judge but davis beats both of them defensively imo, so i have to go with him.

Marbury for sure.

Everybody always gives him crap about teams getting better when he leaves. Especially in the JKidd trade. I love reminding people that JKidd's Phoenix team had a good supporting cast and it was all scrapped when Marbury got there. When JKidd got to New Jerz, they had either just drafted RJ or just drafted K-Mart, and Kittles was finally healthy. It wasn't Marbury's fault.

Anyways, other than starting the year off on fire then fizzling out and being injured etc. Baron hasn't showed me much. Steph on the other hand led a team a couple years back that almost knocked off the Spurs. The same Spurs that went on to win it. He hit quite a few clutch shots in that series (including a game-winning 3 in overtime of game 1 if memory serves.)

Steve Francis isn't close to these two, so all I have to say is he's a whiny cry baby thought he could choose which team drafted him.

A few stats, I'm using code so they line up,

Code: Select all
Marbury - 03-04 - Career
ppg       20.2     20.4
apg       8.9      8.3
rpg       3.2      3.1
spg       1.59     1.26
to        3.07     3.25
fg%      .431     .431
ft%      .817     .784
3%       .318     .315

Code: Select all
Davis - 03-04 - Career
ppg      22.9    15.1
apg      7.5     6.7
rpg      4.3     3.8
spg      2.36    1.9
to       3.21    2.66
fg%     .395    .413
ft%     .673    .649
3%      .321    .328

Like Rens said, I would need to see a few more good seasons out of Baron before I would say he's as good as Marbury. But even then Marbury is a better point guard. I think he's a better passer and can initiate an offence better. His defence is probably a little weaker, if only because Baron is so physical on defence.

Starbury is teh pwn!!!11!1!!OMG!!1!1!!1!!!

Baron Davis:

Best defender out of the three, top 5 defensive PG in the league right now.
Good rebounder and all-round player, Francis leads in this [among these guys] with his exceptional rebounding skills, but Baron is second to him out of those three.

The Hornets did great with him in the lineup, and he took an injured team with very little depth into the playoffs while missing games, he did what he had to do while healthy.
He's just as good a passer as Steph, just doesn't have as many people to pass to.
He's a better outside shooter than Steph, and also a more efficient scorer all-together career wise, but this season he was exactly the same as Stephon in terms of FG shooting efficiency.

Baron's only weakness is his FT shooting [more mental], which needs improvment, but apart from that he's the best PG in the league as Kidd get's older and faces injuries.

I'll take Marbury. He takes care of the ball the best out of the 3 players. Francis is the worst ball handler/decision maker and also the inferior passer. Davis is a hair above Francis in my eyes at scoring and also in defense, where Marbury trails behind both significantly. The reason I take Marbury over BDiddy is injury concerns and bad shot attempts. Marbury isn't one to take good shots either, but he didn't jack 8-9 3's a game last year either...as an all-around player though, I would probably take Davis.

Francis averaged: 17.3 shots a game.
Davis averaged: 20.9 shots a game.
Marbury averaged: 17.1 shots a game.

as you see, Marbury averaged less shots a game than Francis and Baron.

Francis average: 6.2 assists per game.
Davis averaged: 7.5 assists per game.
Marbury averaged: 8.9 assists per game.

Marbury shoots less, and gets more assists than Francis and Davis.

Assists, at times, can be a bit misleading. So can shots per game. Marbury at times held on to the ball until the last second possible before passing to his teammate for an assist. Francis would hold onto the ball and shoot it lol. Not a lot of those assists for any of the 3 players show real skill in vision and ability to find the open player. Also, Davis was the clear cut #1 option for a long time on the team and was given the green light to shoot. But I still agree with the Marbury pick .

I would have to say Marbury for now. But davis would > marbury if he has acouple of more good seasons...

Even though i don't want to pick marbury since he seems to on alot of occasions go off for 30+pts then struggle to get double figures the next game. But he is without doubt the best all around player on that poll.

Baron needs to work on his shot selection ie. stop jackin up 3pters

You kind of have to agree with that, all of them are probably more suited to the SG position. But if I had to pick I would say Marbury.

Francis: Shouldn't be a point guard at all, makes terrible decisions and has to realise he can't always be the go-to-guy. He has to take better shots and try to be less of an 'And 1 Baller' and be more of a team leader and decision maker.

Davis: Davis gets second because he makes better decisions than Francis but struggles with turnovers and jacks up too many threes even when he's struggling. He has to get the ball to Magloire more in order for them to succeed.

Marbury: Best decision maker, he does jack up a lot of threes but he also drives hard to the bucket and can finish with style and draw the foul. He is the best passer and can make some clutch threes when needed. I think he is the best of the three because he is really the closest to actually being a PG than Francis and Davis.

It's hard when your team is limited offensively, and your the main and almost only offensive option while being the PG. Magloire can score down low, but he's not a guy you count on to give you points like that, he's not a double team drawing guy or a good passer either, so you can't play inside out with him.

Mashburn was injured for most of the season, remember, and David Wesley went down also.
On Pheonix: Marion, Joe Johnson and Amare are not by any means limited offensive players.

In the playoffs, yes, because Tim Thomas got injured, but during the season: Keith Van Horn | Tim Thomas, Penny Hardaway, not that Hardaway is a star anymore, but George Lnych and Stacey Augmon just aren't scorers right now. [KT and Nazr had just as much offensive skills as PJ and Magloire, and Shandon sucks]
.....and David Wesley doesn't create his own shot, really he doesn't, he get's assisted on basically every shot he makes [kinda like KT]

NOH had Baron, Darell Armstrong, and Magloire to create their own shot [Mash for a while but Baron got injured when he came too], New York had Stephon, KVH | Tim Thomas, Nazr, and Penny Hardaway, and obviously Allan Houston while he was healthy.

I know you'll probably think Nazr, what's he doing there, but he actually can create his own shot, and look at his minutes and compare his scoring and you'll see, he was actually supposed to be better than Magloire before . Magloire was like below him back in college.

You make a good point fgrep (as always), but personally I would've preferred that Davis' shot attempts and 3 point attempts drop more than they did when Mashburn returned. For the sake of simplification, we'll say Mash only played in Feb and March (which is almost true). Davis averaged 7 3 pt attempts in Feb and 8 in March. That's still a bit high for me...

Baron might not have had as offensively talented team mates as Marbury (IMO they're pretty equal, Marbury's were only about 10-15% better) but that's not an excuse for shooting 27 footers early in the shot clock.

I agree, his 3 point shot is better than his percentage shows because he took some ill-advised shots, but he was just as efficient a shooter as Marbury this season, and career wise he's a more efficient shooter.

awww man. it's gonna hurt for me to say this...

but I cant say Stevie is the best out of the three. Stat-wise I believe he's awesome. He's awesome streetballer but in an NBA game, I just don't think he's the guy who would be clutch...

Starbury and the Baron are both better than him. But Marbury isn't better than the Baron. Marbury is more of a Point guard IMO... but I think Baron Davis is the best out of the three. He does everything and he would be thr better choice out of those three to have the ball in an important play...

And I agree...these guys aren't 'proper' PG's!
