Suns Sign Center Steven Hunter

Posted: Aug. 20, 2004
The Phoenix Suns announced today the signing of free-agent center Steven Hunter.

“Steven Hunter’s athleticism, shot blocking and rebounding ability give us an added dimension to address the need in the middle,” said Suns President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo.

Last season Hunter played a career-high 59 games and blocked at least one shot in 35 games, including a career-high-tying five blocks on Feb. 18 vs. Utah. Hunter started in 23 games, averaging 5.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in 21.6 minutes during that span. His season averages were 3.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and a career-high 1.24 blocks in 13.4 minutes. Hunter scored a season-best 15 points (also had season-high nine rebounds) in 32 minutes on Nov. 8 at Houston.

I was hoping that the knicks could of landed either Steven Hunter (or keon clark) but i guess thats out the picture now.

Like it says above.... “Steven Hunter’s athleticism, shot blocking and rebounding ability give us an added dimension to address the need in the middle.
A great pickup imo he can run the floor and play defence, been a big disappointment so far but i think the suns style of play will suit his game.

At least they have a big man.

He's better than Jake.

a nice pickup by the suns.
Fills up their centre spot where they are lacking in size..

Good size and has some potential. :)

He didn't really get an opportunity to be solid in Orlando given his inconsistent minutes, perhaps he'll do better given a more stable role as the first option to back up centre on the Suns (if he doesn't win the starting job from Voskuhl).

They'd be better off just playing Vroman and Voskuhl. Hunter sux0rs.

Vroman is more skilled (can at least catch the ball) at just about everything except shotblocking. He also hustles a lot out there. Hunter is more skilled than Voskhul, but Little Jake hustles out there as well. Hunter doesn't do that. Hunter probably has among the worst hands in the league today. I think it's a good signing for some competition and Hunter does have potential.

Honestly, I think they'd be better off giving Vroman 20 minutes, and the other 2 14 apiece.

Well i think its a great pickup by the suns.
hes got potential and will prolly fill i nnicely for the Suns.
starting 5 maybe??
Hunter,Stoudemire,Marion,Johnson,Nash??
Mcdyess,Barbosa,Voshkhul,Q-Rich off the bench
the list goes on, suns are gonna be a very tough team to play this imo.

Hunter needs to toughen up though, i once saw him get tears for 2 quick fouls.

i heard they were possibley gonna try stoudmire,marion,Q-rich,JJ,nash
but marion would get murrdered at pf in west.

McDyess is now with the Pistons.
Anyway they still have an interesting roster but Stoudemire at center and Marion at pf i say no. That would be 2 undersized player at their positions and not playing their natural position.
And i doubt they got Vroman and now Hunter to play Stoudemire at C.

i've followed this guy since his days at depaul, btw he should have stayed at least one more year there. i really want to see him succeed but i just don't see it happening

hunter couldn't get starters minutes on a center starved orlando team. for all you popping chubbies saying hunter is the answer at center for the suns, you're in for some disappointment

im stil trying to figure out why they signed Q-Rich then.
i mean they have Marion and JJ is turning into a good 2-guard.

unless there is something in the works of marion being traded????
or JJ?
