Gooden to Cavs (not Mavs)

Postby -BHZMAFIA- on Sat Jul 24, 2004 4:55 am

According to NBA sources, the Cavaliers have traded veteran forward Tony Battie and future draft picks to the Orlando Magic for forwards Drew Gooden, Steven Hunter and Anderson Varejao. The trade is expected to become official later today.

No link, but I know it's true. Looks like the Magic GM are getting dumber by the minute.

I'm a fan of Gooden and I like this because he'll finally be starting again :D, it's time for Gooden to shine, but I don't because it means they're back in high competition, 5th or 6th seed is looking nice for Cleveland. Man the Cavs got lucky, an athletic PF who can run the break to replace Boozer, he might not be as good a rebounder, but he's not too far, and he's a more versatile scorer.

The Magic got ripped in this, crappy trade, Tony Battie and picks, if the picks are low, they don't gain much, Battie is a good defensive guy, but they should've tried to get McInnis or something.

Magic get 2 future 2nds. Yahoo. Battie is the best player in this deal, but Gooden and Varajeo have the potential to surpass him easily. Battie also has very bad knees, so it's quite a risk. I can't believe Weis included Varajeo in this deal.

Any news about those picks? (how many...etc)
Im happy for the Cavs, it's a good deal.
I beleive they need to get some vets now, leaders, the team is really young.

Wow. I just checked it out. It looks legit. Gooden isn't a Boozer...but he is a hard worker and a blue collar guy like the city. I think he'll do fine here. :)

Gooden hard worker? Blue collar? He's lazy like no other on defense and a selfish player on offense. Almost black hole-esque. When he works harder on defense and passes more, he has a lot of potential. He hasn't much besides his rookie year though.

Haven't the magic learnt about stockpiling draft picks? Battie still has some years left in him... but they gave up mike miller for gooden, now they have given up gooden for draft picks..

Ainge and Mullin will have now have a competition for the dumbest GM in NBA Today. Trading Gooden, Hunter and Varejao for Battie and draft picks (2 draft picks but 2nd round).

And by the way if you where the Magic GM which trade will you do
the Gooden-Battie trade or Gooden-Stackhouse/Laettner trade.

Well it is pretty obvious that the Magic are trying to clear PT for Dwight Howard. I haven't seen this kid play or know much about him, but I've heard a lot of hatin' on him around this forum, maybe thats why you think it's such a dumb trade?
hmm... I think, if he does live up to the hype of being the number 1 pick and turn out like LeBron or something, the trade probably won't look so bad in retrospec.
Gooden didn't really play that well last year, after the way he performed in his rookie year. I can understand that the Magic would want a defensive big man, by trading for Battie, but it just baffles me why they didn't just pick up Okafor :? :?

Yeah. I was wondering how they were going to workout the rotation between all of those forwards/centers.

I think it is a good trade for the Cavs. Gooden obviously doesn't like to sit on the bench and play behind someone, and now he will get to start again. If he plays as good as he did as a rookie, LeBron+Gooden could mature into one of the best 1-2 punches in the league.

He wore 9 for part of his career in Orlando, then he went to 0. He wore 0 in Memphis.

Bad trade for Orlando... Wat the hell are they doing? They could have gotten more in exchange! But the part about more PT for DH is alright!

Great work for Cavs cause they get someone to try to cover up the AMAZING BOOZER BACKFLIP!
