Several teams spent Wednesday looking into the possibilities of acquiring Heat forward Caron Butler, possibly as part of a trade involving the Heat's No. 19 selection in tonight's NBA Draft.
Among those looking into Butler has been the Orlando Magic, which is in the process of trying to trade guard Tracy McGrady and might be interested in moving on players acquired in a potential deal with the Houston Rockets.
In addition, there was word that the Cleveland Cavaliers might emerge as a potential trade partner, with their No. 10 selection in play.
While Heat General Manager Randy Pfund declined to discuss specific deals, he reiterated that "there are teams in the top 11 or 12 having discussions with their picks. I don't think that's off base."
Such a swap to No. 10 would give the Heat a better shot at Mississippi power forward Al Jefferson, a hulking prospect who Pfund acknowledged isn't likely to be available for the Heat at No. 19. The Heat staff scouted Jefferson on Tuesday in Jackson, Miss.
A swap of draft picks with Cleveland involving Butler could possibly fetch the Heat center DeSagana Diop or perhaps guard Dajuan Wagner.
"I don't want to confirm who we're having conversations about," Pfund said. "My response is if people are doing their due diligence, that probably indicates the interest they have in our players."

He's young and full of potential. Last year was just his sophomore slump. I'd wait til further into the season.
