McGrady a Big Dissapointment?

There is a lot of Allen Iverson in Tracy McGrady, minus the corn rows and arrest record. T-Mac, a mannerly and likable young man, is smarter than that. But that doesn't hide the facts that are starting to surface. In anticipation of his departure, whispered stories are leaking about the staggering number of practices McGrady missed or begged off from

This past season, when Orlando lost almost three times as many games as it won, McGrady in the midst of it all talked of retirement when the team started 1-5, then packed it in with nine games remaining because of what he said was tendinitis in his knee. In between, he quit playing what little defense he ever used to play and became a one-dimensional perimeter shooter, and not a very good shooter at that. Sure T-Mac was the scoring champion again, something that sure seemed more important to him last season than victories did, but his .417 field goal percentage didn't even crack the league's top 50.

And all of this while he was supposed to be the team captain. Some captain. If McGrady is with this team next season, don't expect to see that silly little "C" on his jersey again.

If McGrady is traded, it'll be his choice. Make no mistake about that. You don't trade that kind of talent unless you have to. But if he is traded, you will then finally start to hear stories about his work ethic and commitment, or lack thereof. And don't be surprised if those stories come, not from management perhaps trying to save face, but from teammates who last year grew increasingly frustrated with a guy who, in their minds, conveniently complained of back soreness whenever it was time to practice.

until he wins people will always be talking bad behind his back, its just the nature of the media and the game, for almost any team and any player. their is no exemption. If tmac starts winning again the same writer will be falling off his pony worshiping him :D

Stevenson? What?
They should've kept Armstrong and made him captian, if Hill plays, or for the 20-30 games he plays he will be captain, and Bogans is a sophomore, year make him captain and see what happens, no one is going to respect him. If he was a star or something, but making a mediocre sophomore player the team captian is just stupid.

I like Gooden, so I'm always hoping the best for him, I wanted the Raptors to get him, but then we got Bosh so no need at all.

does captaincy even matter? None of us really know what any of these players are really like, and if you're a leader whether you have the C or not you're gonna be a good example in the locker room. just keep tmac as captain, even if he isnt a good leader, if only for decoration.

Exactly, I don't remember alot of teams having a C on their Captain jersey...a captain is pretty much obvious, C or no C on the jersey.

T'Wolves: C = Garnett, we don't see him sporting the letter on his jersey.

Spurs = Duncan

Lakers = Shaq

Nets = Kidd

Stupid C... :roll:

Even though every team has a captain or captains, they don't always wear a "C" on their jerseys anymore. Aside from lockerroom and on-court leadership, the captains are the only players who are allowed to talk to a referee during a timeout. Therefore, the captain isn't always the best player on the roster but the player who can keep a cool head and has been in the league for a while. That's why there's been some unusual choices for co-captains over the years.

As I mentioned in another thread, one of the reasons I'm not all that keen on T-Mac coming to Chicago is his attitude. If he isn't interested in the challenge of carrying a losing team back to respectability, then Chicago should reconsider pursuing him, especially since he can opt out of his contract next year.

Magius is right though. Should he re-invent himself and change his attitude and most importantly, win, these incidents will likely be swept back under the rug.
