The worst player we've ever seen...

Postby Andrew on Tue Jun 15, 2004 2:42 pm

This topic has been done almost as much as "The greatest player we've ever seen...", but with fewer arguments over the potential candidates. It seems a little easier to pick a worst player than it is a best player, since greatness has many measures. A player could be terrible in several ways too, but ultimately we can generally agree on the criteria for a bad player; low statistical production, few (if any) polished skills, and no positive impact upon a team.

So I thought it would be interesting to discuss who we think is the worst player we've ever seen, and why, and see if we can pick a consensus worst player we've ever seen.

The popular choice would seem to be Yinka Dare, but that would depend on the criteria. He never played more than 10.8 mpg (he twice played a career high 28 minutes), so he never got much of a chance to do anything special. On the other hand, you might argue that he would have had the chance to prove himself had he shown any promise. Like the "greatest" debate, exceptions could be made.

So, who do you think the worst player we've ever seen is, and why? What exactly makes them deserving of such an "honour"? I'll post my pick after a few others weigh in with their thoughts. :)

I am a Lakers fan and I get to see NBA games probably once or maybe twice a week. In all the games that I have seen, Slava Medvedenko has not done anything good! I don't think he has really had any impact on the Lakers except for a bad one. (He also has no skills except for a mid-range jumper which is basically not very good anyway.)
There is my pick! :D

I'm a T-Wolves fan.

MICHAEL "NUT FACE" OLOWOKANDI has no clue how to play the game.

larue martin for sure, picked #1 in 72 and has career averages of 14.0 mpg, 5.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg. little know bob mcadoo was picked 2nd, and relative unknown dr j was picked 12th.

Kandi isn't that bad though, he shouldn't have been a no 1 pick, but with the riot about big men before, it just happened to be that way.
He can still put up 12 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks if you give him 32+ minutes a game.

lol Andrew, i was thinking of creating a 'worst player in the NBA' thread not long ago, but i thought it would be silly so i didn't. :P

But, my choice for worst player under contract would have to be Cezary Trybanski.

lol yeah. I don't know how he can even live with himself. Oliver Miller was more valuable for us this year than him.

no we signed him early in the year because we had no centers. Kandi was hurt, madsen was hurt and trent was hurting. So we had to sign Miller just to bring in another body.

well if you're a sixers fan then you have your choice of chris welp, alvaro tehran, b.j. tyler ( was supposed to be the pre-iverson, iverson) kenny payne, hansi gnad. i'll stop there.

other than sixers, brad sellers from the bulls or rich king who though i can't remember who drafted him was being billed as a future star at center along with luc longley.

Slava is not that bad, he had a couple of 25+ games when Shaq, Kobe and Karl were out. He made some big shots in the Minnesota series, and he can knock down the open 15 footer if he wants and he is a good offensive rebounder.

For the Lakers I would say Mike Penberthy, I didnt get to see to many games of him, maybe 2 or 3..but he sucked so he gets my vote

BJ Tyler was injured just after he was drafted. He never fully recovered, that's why he has never been able to prove his value in the NBA.

On my side I was thinking of Steve Scheffler, that looked more like a mascott with the Sonics than a real NBA Player :P

Vincenzo Esposito of the Raptors in 1996 was given a nickname : "T-Man". T stands for Turnover :P

And even if he's one of the best player in Europe, his stint with the Mavs last year was disastrous

well I can't say who is the worst player in the league...

But I can say that the worst player between players I like or used to like is SHAWN KEMP.

Worst player of all time without any question: Zaur Pachulia

Supposed to come in and save the magic, made front page in Orlando Sentinel, yet still continues to blow. Hard.
