All Defensive Teams Named

Tue Apr 27, 2004 7:06 am

C - Ben Wallace
F - Kevin Garnett
F - Ron Artest
G - Bruce Bowen
G - Kobe Bryant

C - Theo Ratliff
F - Tim Duncan
F - Andrei Kirilenko
G - Doug Christie
G - Jason Kidd

It's a tragedy that Kirilenko and Ratliff were left off the first team, in my opinion.

I was actually very surprised that Kobe was on the 1st team. He is capable of playing very good lockdown D when needed, but he usually doesn't sustain it for 48 mins due to his duties at the other end of the court as well. I would have gone with Doug (whipped lil bitch) Christie.

yeah that sucks, but you can't really argue with what is given.
KG and Ben are better defenders that Ratliff and Ron Artest aka defensive player of the year is no doubt a first teamer which takes away Kirilenko spot.

im a kobe bryant fan but i agree with you. christie is more deserving to be included in 1at team than kobe though he leads in steal.

I agree- Kobe only plays D- minimal effort! But he does play D when he does feel like it- better than none!

Tue Apr 27, 2004 4:13 pm

minimal effort? did you see the game against the magic where he shut t-mac down in the 4th quarter? he's one nasty defender

Tue Apr 27, 2004 4:52 pm

Good selections, though you could probably swap Bowen and Bryant for Christie and Kidd.

Tue Apr 27, 2004 5:01 pm

i would have artest @G, replacing "the shining" bryant and then insert kirilenko @f

christie for bryant - good but bowen for kidd??? are you okey???
what did kidd do to be included in 1st team plus you will take the spot of bowen which many will agree a very good defensive player.

this post make sense coz kirilenko also deserve to be in the 1st team with all around play sometimes 5 bls and 5 steal in a game plus couple of rebound.

about the defensive skill of bryant he definitely a good defender especially when it matter most. but he is a good defensive player though he overlook it by his good offensive skill.

Bowen is indeed a fine defensive player, but he's also a very underhanded player; consider some of the dirty plays he's been responsible the last couple of years. I don't disagree with his selection for the First Team, but I think Kidd would have been a decent choice as well.

Wed Apr 28, 2004 6:17 am

i totally agree with Andrew... Bowen is a good defender but not as good as Kidd... Kidd doesnt do dirty plays while Mr. Cheap Ass Bowen, well im giving him a new nickname... Kidd plays straight up D....

and if your wondering why i hate bowen..... im a die hard laker fan and i hate the spurs!!!

Wed Apr 28, 2004 6:37 am

Why has nobody complained about Duncan not being on the first team? The Spurs only put together one of THE GREATEST DEFENSIVE SEASONS IN NBA HISTORY (if not the absolute greatest) after all.

Why are we switching Bowen and Kidd? You switch Kidd and Kobe...Kidd is the best backcourt defensive player in the league. Christie should be nowhere near these two teams. Nor should Kobe. If you're going to go with the logic that Artest should be first team because he stupidly won DPOY and make Bowen a G. Allright. Then here are the Real All-Defense Teams.

C- Tim Duncan
F- Kevin Garnett
F- Ron Artest
G- Bruce Bowen
G- Jason Kidd

C- Jeff Foster
F- Ben Wallace
F- Andrei Kirilenko
G- Manu Ginobili (or Marion...or Diaw...)
G- Eric Snow

Wed Apr 28, 2004 7:01 am

bruce "lee" bowen should be on the 1st team for this reason: he destroys his assigned defensive victim

Kidd is the best backcourt defensive player in the league.

In what sense? He's great at controlling the passing lanes, but so his AI, so is Baron Davis. Kidd's on-the ball defense is nothing special, nowhere near Ron Artest's or a 1990s Gary Payton.

Ron Artest could be considered a backcourt defensive player, seeing that he guards the teams best swingman, such as Kobe, Pierce, or T-Mac.

Wed Apr 28, 2004 7:45 am

how is kobe on the all defense team yet alone the first above eric snow? eric snow is by far the best defensive pg in the league, kobe's defense is okay, but it isnt jordanesque and he's not even a point. if placing a 2 or 3 at point is allowed artest should be listed at the point with bowen at the 2 and kirilenko at the 3.

oh well, i guess kobes deserving of all nba first team because, you know, he can shut down mobley. oh, wait, he cant. one cant even remember the last half decent player he has actually shut down to the degree an artest or bowen has.

How do people still not know this:

The All-NBA teams are in the format G-G-F-F-C, it doesn't matter if the G's are PG's or SG's, or if the F's are SF's or PF's as long as you're a guard you can be in there and as long as you're a forward you can be in. So their's not point, 2 and 3, just G-G-F.

Eric Snow is not the best defensive PG, he's a very good one but definately not the best.

Like gloveguy said, Kidd isn't the best backcourt defensive player, he can pick passing lanes very well and his on ball defense is not bad actually, its above average but not better than Ron Artests, and Baron's is not far away from him.

EDIT: This was up for too long to delete.

chill.

if thats the case then artest and bowen should be at the guard positions and kirilenko should be at the 3rd forward position. if for whatever reason either bowen or artest cant be considered guards jason kidd should occupy a guard spot. eric snow, in my opinion is the best defensive point guard in the nba.

Wed Apr 28, 2004 2:27 pm

E Snow is a much better on-the-ball defender than Kidd, too bad he didn't make the team

Wed Apr 28, 2004 6:44 pm

i also think that this year marion deserves to be on the 2nd defensive team over christie. christie has always been and still is a good defender, but i personally think that this year marion wins out over him just a bit. bottom line -- in my opinion their are two wrong selections on the team, one blatant, one not as, but other than that the rest of the selections were right. if it were up to me snow and marion would be on the team over kobe and christie, but oh well, it isnt :D too bad.

the right d team selections based on real defensive talent:

first team
duncan
wallace
garnett
bowen
artest

second team
ratliff
kirilenko
marion
jason kidd
snow

Thu Apr 29, 2004 1:35 am

The thing about Marion is that he's got the length and the atheleticicsm so he can block and steal, but on the ball he's not as good as the other guys, he's not that good an on ball defender.
