Blazers were really fortunate for this trade to have happened.

Its kinda odd though, Randolph is the power forward?? therefore I'm guessing Reef moves to the 3, which brings Miles to the bench, and Ratliff plays Center.

Pretty good deal for both teams. It's obvious Sheed didn't fit into Portland's future plans, so it's good that they moved him for talent rather than letting him walk or trading him for scrubs with expiring deals.

Reef has the reputation of being the guy who puts up good numbers on bad teams. The Blazers are no doubt hoping he'll be able to shake that label and help them win games. I'm guessing he'll be playing second fiddle to Zach Randolph.

Ratliff is a good player to have defending the paint, though his scoring and rebounding is down slightly from last season. Dickau is a decent replacement for Jeff McInnis at backup point guard.

Sheed alone isn't the answer to Atlanta's problems. It will be interesting to see if they can keep him at the end of the season - or if they want to. Person is filler, but he can still shoot.

This kinda surprised me...

Rasheed and Wesley Person for Abdur-Rahim, Ratliff and Dan Dickau...

Good... Atlanta will clean its house on season's end and Portland got 2 good players... Let's see how Shareef ends up playing...

Jeff McInnis, Andrew?

I see it like that:

C - Ratliff
PF - Randolph
SF - Abdur-Rahim
SG - Anderson
PG - Stoudamire

^^^

Yea that was I was saying, but I don't like the Shareef at the 3, its not bad but Reef really can't guard 3's too effectively.

Yep, Jeff McInnis. He began the season with the Blazers, but was dealt to Cleveland in the Darius Miles trade.

man... this is HUGE.

I think Shareef will finally get some recognition that he deserves now that he's on a more "winning" team (compared to grizz and hawks)

Rasheed is finally out of portland

Good trade for the Blazers. Not only they get a replacement for Rasheed and pretty much equal value, they also pick up a good shot blocking big man in Ratliff.
For Atlanta, this is good. They just got rid of 2 big contracts which will help them save money and possibly jump into the Kobe Sweepstakes this summer.

yeah i was hopeing Sheed would have gone to ny for maybe Thomas. But still its good for Portland this way i guess. I rekon Sharif should play sf he is a great player and can step up for the spot!

Great trade for Portland, I think, though I don't know if 'Reef at the 3 works.

Atlanta? They may live to regret this trade. It seems like a cap-clearing move, but I doubt any big names will want to come to Atlanta. This opens the door for 'Sheed to come to NY for the mid-level exception, because I can't see him wanting to stay in Atlanta, even if they want him. At least we'll see for a half-season (or more) what kind of damage he can do in the East.

this is a win for Portland when you look at it they've already got a pretty good rebounding center in Davis now they bring in Ratlif...this gives Davis some relief minutes at C....Shareef and Randolph could switch position not that it does matter....itz a great deal for Portland i think

Reef played 3 a bit in Vancouver and Atlanta didn't he (?). Anyways I just wish they had of done it a few hours earlier so Reef didn't kill the Mavs in his last game! Apart from Bryant who would are next seasons marquee free agents? And its good to see Portland pick someone up who doesn't carry his bong under his back seat!

WOW! :o

Reef and Zach... What a combo!

Just when Miles thought he would be get the starting job. :P

Maybe their lineup will look like this though?

C- Randolph
PF- Reef
SF- Miles
SG- Anderson
PG- Stoudamire
---
Ratliff?

Randolph would get bumped around a little too much at C... but it could happen...

WOW! i love trades...

Yeah im pretty sure shareef played the 3 spot when vancover traded for otis thorpe... but that was a much younger shareef. if worse comes to worse, have randolf at centre, shareef pf, patterson at sf, and anderson and stoudamire in the backcourt.. or just trade shareef for kvh :proud:

edit: oh fuck, i just read barnsey's post saying that! hehe sorry nick

wouldnt surprise me man. considering last year wenever kobe played there they chanted M-V-P.

anyway what a trade ofr portland imo.
Reef is putting up better numbers than Sheed and plays like a forward should. In the post instead of outside shootin jumpers and threes.
Ratliff is one of the top blockers in the league and wasnt Dickau said to be the next stockton???

Reef will be doing the same thing alongside Randolph. His numbers will also go down.

Great trade for the Blazers, though.

I don't think Atlanta has their own fans, I remember when Carter hit the game winner against them many fans were cheering. They just come to see the other teams.

http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregon ... 238860.xml

Abdur-Rahim and Ratliff are expected to move into the starting lineup -- Abdur-Rahim at small forward ahead of Darius Miles, and Ratliff at the center spot vacated by Wallace -- and Dickau will come off the bench.

All three players have contracts that expire after next season, which Nash said makes them "assets up until this time next year, just as Rasheed and Wes Person were assets."

Portland is still missing a big time clutch player.. I don't know if Damons got it within him.

I"m excited for Reefs, i'm from Vancouver , so ya.. finally good to see him on a better team, or a winning team.

Reefs and Randolph are consistent scorers that will get it done.. I"m not sure about their defence tho.. At at clutch situation if Damon can get it done or Reefs and Randolph can make big plays at the end. THey'll get in the playoffs.. LOokin at all other west teams.. they got Kobe/Payton, Peja/Jackson/Bibby, Dirk/Nash/Finley, Melo/Boykins/Miller, Duncan/Manu
Almost every1 haf big time shooters for end of 4th quarter plays..[/list]
