7'1 SG????

Postby Matt on Thu Feb 05, 2004 2:10 am

Another name to watch for the upcoming draft is 7-1 SG Ivan Chiriaev (yes, he is a shooting guard), a Russian currently playing at St. Thomas Aquinas High outside Toronto. Chiriaev is shooting up the draft charts--word has it that he already has been given first-round guarantees by more than one team.

i think that was on Fox sports or sumthin
thats just crazy

well... if he gets drafted, then he's most likely be playing either sf or pf just like dirk. he may have the shooting guard skills but the coaches wont let him play at 2. i hope he has descent post moves. cuz any 7 footer without post moves are just waste of height.

Nowitzki played all 5 positions while he was in Europe, and in the NT comps he ran the point on more than one occasion for Deutschland...

That's what most players from Europe are like, and taught... the fundamentals. Even if you're big, you have to first master the guard skills, then go to the inside-skills.

So, this isn't really that much of a shocker...

I think what they're saying is that he's more athletic than Nowitzki, which is pretty scary. If he's athletic like Ginboli and shoots like Dirk...scary.

I'll have to see him play before I make any assumptions. I wouldn't be surprised though if he starts out his first season on the bench, much like Darko and Lampe.

I'm amazed.. soo give he is probally gonna get drafted out of high school.. He does have a decent frame ... with his quickness and athletic ability.. he would be like AK47 with dirk's shooting..

Hmm.. i doubt hes got like Manu's movements.. 7'2 you can't.. you just can't.. i'm gussing he moves like KG ..

interesting....if he can have the agility and quickness of a guard with his height...then he's unique. I'd have to see him play first though.

We've seen big guards before, but that would really be something. But I'm with nublu, chances are he'll spend more time at forward if he makes it to the NBA.

He's not the #1 draft pick. He'll be drafted about 12th because he is raw and not worth wasting your 1st pick on.

Yea he'll be more like late lottery or an early first round pick.

But we just have to wait till the chicago pre-draft camp and see how everyone fares and how it affects their status.
