Thoughts on NBA Prospect Dwight Howard...

I watched him play on ESPN2 last night.
He didn't look any different from Kwame Brown or Tyson Chandler to me. He's about 6'10" or 6'11"...thin, well-built and athletic. He showed a neat little hook shoot in the post...he dribbled fair enough if not smoothly and he had an awkward jump shot.

He let the other center (a 6'11" kid who was strong but not nearly as athletic) beat him up and dunk on him a couple of times. He didn't really have a nose for the ball. He did a couple stupid things like trying to take the ball up himself with the game on the line and running over another player to get the offensive foul called on him. He also seemed to have a bizarre tendency to go inside against the other big man and to stay on the perimeter against the little guys. He only scored 19 or 20 points overall.

He reminds me a lot of Marcus Camby and Tyson Chandler. He showed no real face-up game to speak of...but a few good post moves and athleticism. Like Chandler...he also showed little heart or competitive fire. He might not like basketball that much.

He'll be drafted high...but there's not much reason to believe he'll be better than Chandler or Kwame. No way I'd draft him over Okafor. Maybe 4th or 5th.

I heard he could be first, which would be a big mistake. Three high schoolers going number one in the past four years just isn't right. He's not like Lebron. His skills are too raw and he could end up just being another Kwame.

I heard there could be more than 10 high schoolers entering the draft. That would would absolutely kill it. I'd rather take a four or three year college player over any high schooler now.

Howard will not be like Brown. Kwame was just bigger then everyone and never played against real competition. He had no jumper in highschool and still does not. Also you have to wanna be great to be great and Kwame does not wanna be great.

Howard is a real prospect, hes raw yes but he has more talent then half the teams in the NBA starting PFs. He must of had a bad night when you seen him on espn2. Hes a great highschool player. With that said he should go to college for 4 years and do what TD did, I mean look at TD now :)
