Eddie Griffin will be released from Houston

Postby paul_pierce_the_truth on Sat Dec 20, 2003 5:53 am

Eddie Griffin will be released from Houston as reported on ESPN News.

I hope Boston signs him.

This could be a huge steal for anyone, Jeff Van Gundy is so "tough" that he makes a mistake here.

I know the guy has many problems, but he's a talented forward and is only 21.

I think Boston, Orlando or Toronto will get him.

Griffin is being released according to ESPN.
NY could just sign him right out jail or whatever.

You should be advised about salary cap restrictions, Keith Van Horn is a max salary player earning $13,279,750 and Eddie Griffin will be bought out I guess for the remaining amount on his current contract which is only for the remainder of the season at $2,312,670. So if they didn't release him, one player they can not trade him for is Keith Van Horn, that is unless they include Kelvin Cato and Moochie Norris or something, which wouldn't be that bad of trade, but I doubt NY is interested and such craziness.

Unless of course you were thinking because Griffin is going to be a free agent at season's end, then they could resign at $13,000,000 per season and then trade him for Keith Van Horn?

Which in that case you should be advised that Eddie Griffin just shot a gun at one of his girlfriends and has had a history of being a complete troublemaker, also he hasn't produced any numbers to justify anything above say 2 years/$1,070,000 per.

Management in New Jersey must be laughing at this disturbing result.

He is a free agent there's no need for trading and yea he doens't deserve that much money, not even close.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Hes a quality player that justs needs to keep himself straight. I think Eddie could do a good job(if he goes to Boston) in filling Antoine Walkers shoes, along with the other aquisitions this past week. Danny Ainge may be looking at GM of the year.

I hope you weren't one of the people hating on him after the Antoine trade, just playing but I thought he made good moves.

Well I wasnt really a fan of Antoine because I think he was playing out of position at PF and he shot too many 3's. But to see what it did to the celtics earlier this season, it kind of hurt. :P . Well, I wasnt expecting Ainge to do all of this movement this season.

A great opportunity for 28 other teams (though obviously not everyone will be interested), or perhaps the Charlotte Bobcats if Griffin holds out. His legal troubles might scare away a few teams though.

I wasn't a big fan of Antoine either I was happy the Celts made the trade, I was also happy they got Jiri Welsch cause i watched him in summer league and in preseason and i thought if he found a team he could play on he'd be good. Mihm should be inserted into the starting lineup, but i don't want Ricky to take Welsch's spot, Welsch can play PG but he's a little T.O prone at least he was before.

He specified a sign & trade so knowing he was (being) released, his contract would be quite different in term of money...

Well, the case is NY is giving Van Horn a chance and so far he has played good. IMO, the Knicks just need a new manager not a SF.

I agree, the knicks management is terrible. They need to stop with the quick fix "solutions".. but I loved the Mcdyess deal when it went down, it was a great move... I thought I'd mention that becuase apart from getting Dikembe and Mcdyess, I havent liked any of the Knicks moves...

You said legit right? Griffin is more of a SF and PF. Chris Bosh would be a better center. Griffin is not a legit center. He may pass for one in the East but that just isnt his position.

yea Griffin isn't a center but he's long like Donyell and could play center but the guy is too much of a perimeter player on offense and he still needs to get in shape to play for anyone right now......also he has a 6 to 6 curfew doesn't he? so i dunno how that would work

yeah that's wut i heard too... can u believe it Rockets got rip off big time...now they have no player left in that trade with NJ...to make things worse Eddie just goes back to NJ... lol at Rockets...even though Eddie was having off court problems..if he can clear that up the off court problem he's still gonna have a good talent and when Martin signs with another team next offseason they won't have to worry about it that much...

haha good stuff (y) I'd say the Rockets got ripped, but you never know, Griffin could have half the Nets smoking pot by the end of the season (if they don't already) :D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he would fit in well with NJ (provided he gets his legal shit outta the way) since he's pretty damn athletic for a big(ish) guy and can run the floor, shoot it some, rebound and block shots. I think during his first season he had quite a good run during one month where he was putting 16/17 points along with 9-ish boards and several blocks a game. This might just work out :) (y)

I'm shocked with cleverness.

It's Griffin with "i", for Tom, Dick and Harry's sake, Nick...

I like Eddie Griffen... I think it's a good move by the Nets. He could average 18, 8 and 2 or 3 blocks someday along the road... Playing with Kidd helps too... Just take Kidd away from Jefferson and you'll see Qyntel Woods desguised... Griffen could be a valuable sub for the Nets... I like him... But he has to stop smoking pot, beating his women up and carrying a gun and stuff... That should not be difficult...

Damn I was hoping New York could sign him. Oh well it could've been worse, he couldve gone to detroit and he couldve really hurt those pistions by giving them an extra option on offense

Yeah I think it's funny that New Jersey not only winds up with their own pick from the 2001 draft (I think it was #6), but they get the Rockets' picks as well. Not only one but THREE picks, including Richard Jefferson who would really be helping the Rockets at SF right now and a decent backup center in Collins.
