Who will be the better big man?

Postby fgrep15 on Sat Dec 13, 2003 2:18 pm

I think Zach Randolph is going to be reall good, but Nene hhas the raw game and if he can implement on that he will be a force....he is like a young malone but a better free throw shooter......and Bosh is just sick, and he's got the best shot out of all these guys and can swat like a mad man great foot work i say the new coming of KG with Duncan's smarts and better range, Chandler need to put on some mucles to get the back problems out of th way and Curry is also sick but not a great rebounder and not as good a defender as the rest

Right now im saying Zach Randolph

Stoudemire will be the best amongst them...he's young...tons of potential...this dismal start is creating alot of flak though... :(

randolph really impresses me with his game and we dont need to talk about his talent, if he only was on a different team where he could develope better...anyway, stoudemire and bosh also have the talent to be one of the best big men in the league someday

Believe it or not I would rather have Chris Bosh than Amare Stoudemire.

I think Bosh is like Tim Duncan, people say Kevin Garnett, but I think he's not quite that athletic, but is fundamentally together for his age, his nice mid-range shot is going in already, he blocks shots, he is quiet and sneaky good.

Zach Randolph is very young and very good, the best on the list.

I compare Nene to a young Kevin Willis or Tree Rollins. (you must be pretty old to remember these guys being young)

I think Nene could be another Zach Randolph in the making, for some reason I don't see him as quite the scorer or being as comfortable under pressure though.

Zach Randolph punched the dirty and nasty Ruben Patterson and nearly closed his eye last year, that get's a few extra points from me.

^^^so would I

if and when bosh puts on a little more muscle he will be even better.....i like the fact that he has three point range and have you seen some of those blocks.....he's also a great weak side and help defender i'd say he's got the best bball IQ out of all of them

In order...

Randolph (He's already the best of those 10)
Stoudamire (So damn athletic for his size, and Martin is right, he's been working in the off-season on a 15 foot J that's great and could make him an awesome player)
Nene (I saw the Nuggets-Hawks game the other day and i was impressed by his quickness when he moves. He can post-up and can turn to the baseline and dunk, or spin and shoot or dunk or a hook.)
Bosh (I haven't seen a Raptors game, just some highlights, but he looks very good for beign a rookie. I think he is too thin, he's the lost brother of Garnett (j/k)
Curry (Haven't seen him, but a read that his defense is poor and so his rebounds aren't very high. But he rules in the offensive side :P )
Kaman (He's showing he can play in the last few games)

And the rest in no order, i don't think they could be great, only role players.

I can't believe i was the only one who voted for Amare...

He's a beast, has a huge arsenal of post moves, blocks shots, rebounds, intimidates, and is still a teenager. I believe he will be a top 5 Pf in a few years.

I would say Zach Randolph will be better in this group, but amare was gettin' no love so i had to vote for him.

nice bosh got a lotta votes.....i think he is the most all round guy out of all of them.....he has range, he's quick, can run the floor, is athletic, good blocker, good rebounder (his size limits his rebounding but it'll come), soft touch around the basket, alright in the post up but again limited by size, great bball IQ, quick and soft hands and he is only 19

Randolph is reall good but his only flaw is that he isn't a defensive shot blocking presence, also needs to lose a little more of that baby fat

and yea i have seen amare's jumper its getting there, he doesn't have too soft a touch around the basket though and sometimes relies on his ahteleticism a little too much on the defensive end which can cause foul trouble, improved J and a hook shot and a better bball IQ will sky rocket his effectiveness, he has the body, strength, quickness and athleticism

and i just love nene's game....he runs the floor so well, even bring the ball up sometimes (not a great thing but still), he's got lightning quick hands and great athleticism, also needs to develop his J and work on his timing to become a shot blocker, he has the hops but not the skill for blocking if he can become a better shot blocker and smarter defender he will be a stopper in the post, when he moves away from his raw stage will be crazy to see what he can do

curry has everything on offense but not that much on defense......if yo mixed eddy and chandler together you would have the perfect player

on a different team...without elton brand wilcox could be a beast, great offensive rebounder and crazy hops and dunk power, very quick and fast one of the fastest 4's out there, he has an okayy post up game but also needs to rely less on his athleticism on defense, his face up post skills are very good and he has an okayy jumper

chandler work out buddy please

Almost all of them can be good. But i think in this group Amare is well above the rest. You see he is the type of forward who dunks the ball everytime he has a chance. I know he can't make a jumper consistently but do you want to see your forward shooting jumpshots instead of taking high percentage shots(like dunks)? This player has no fear. His moniquer fits him well(MANCHILD!).

As a fan of both Nene and Zach Randolph i still had to go with Amare Stoudemire.
the guy is a beast! manchild as he gets called, hes finally allowed to drink legally(21 in america aint it?)
hes already one of the top power players, and with a improving jumpshot will be scary in the near future.
wen hes on his game now hes great to watch.

Except during all the times he can't get a dunk, which is about 80% of his touches, maybe a nice 12 foot jumper would be handy.

I'd take Randolph's 12 foot jumper and 9 foot turnaround J and you can have dunks by Amare.

If you you are 7'1" 335lbs like the big fella, dunking is more like a weapon, not a showcase move. Amare better learn to pass the ball too.

it's a tough call between stoudemire, randolph, and curry.

to add to what has been already said:

randolph is breaking out now but i think as long as he in portland (or around those type of players), he'll never fullfill his full potential. but he has shown he has the goods on offense: soft touch around the bucket, can step out and hit an outside shot, and can hit some free throws.

i still can't get over the fact that stoudemire played last year legally blind and yet had a successful year anyway. he already has the size and physical skills going for him, it's just a matter of teaching this guy some fundamentals. this guy is shawn kemp pre nba lockout in the making.

curry is somewhat of an enigma. he has the physical tools: a rare combination of great size, agility, soft hands, footwork. out of all the names on the list, curry can be the most dominant one. but i'm still not sure if he has the personality to be a killer like shaq is. i.e- in the bulls first game under coach skiles, curry received a lob and dunked it on a defender while being fouled. he yelled at first for a little but then didn't know how to react afterwards. it looked almost like he felt somewhat guilty for laying the defender out. some years in college would have definitely helped him defensively, as he still doesn't have a good grasp on some basic defensive concepts.

my biased vote went to curry
Jump.

Yeah that would be nice. I think his working on it.

Im just saying that the shots being taken by amare are high percentage shots which i believe every coach wants in his forward.

I agree. That's one part of his game that he has to improve to be a more dangerous force inside.
