NBA suspends season after player tests positive for coronavirus

The NBA announced on Wednesday that it is suspending its season until further notice amid coronavirus fears.

The announcement arrived shortly after a game between the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder was abruptly postponed.

The extraordinary step is the latest in the United States to limit large gatherings in an effort to stifle the transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19.

The news arrives hours after the NCAA announced that its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will be played without fans in the stands. College basketball conferences are falling in line with their championship tournaments.

Looks like it's Rudy Gobert, who previously made a point of mocking the fear of the virus. So much for that, eh Rudy?

In any case, this is a big deal and unprecedented to state the obvious. I imagine it's going to push things back at least a couple of weeks, probably a month, while they get all their ducks in a row and figure out how to continue the season.

What a complete moron he is. Potentially infecting those media people due to his disregard for basic health and safety, all for an unfunny joke. And now he has probably infected Donovan Mitchell.

Jazz star Donovan Mitchell has tested positive for the coronavirus, league sources tell ESPN. Jazz players privately say that Rudy Gobert had been careless in the locker room touching other players and their belongings. Now a Jazz teammate has tested positive.

The thing is, even if one wants to argue that it's best not to cause panic and hysteria - and it is indeed best to avoid that - taking care, and an approach of "better safe than sorry" is still wise in a situation like this. His hubris looks pretty dumb right now.

Sources say season might resume as late as August. I can’t really process what would be the outcome if this happens. What happens with the next season?

Wow this is crazy. Apparently most of the owners were in favor of playing without fans in attendance except Dolan lol

The question is whether they play out the rest of the season when they can or if they cancel games and head straight to the postseason? They've already contacted stadiums to check schedules for July and August

It look like Gobert might wasn't be a patient zero, but Mitchell and Rudy was infected by Don (they have lockers side by side).

NBA will be on hiatus for at least 30 days. Positive tests could keep pushing things back, and the cancellation of the season is a distinct possibility.

You'd think it'd be Dolan's dream; barring all those mean Knicks fans who clearly don't appreciate him or understand his genius, from entering MSG.

The Christian Wood positive test made sense since he went up against Gobert but it's scary that one of the Nets players got it elsewhere and spread it around the team

Apparently James Dolan has the virus and if there was anyone that was "most deserving" in the NBA community it would be him lol

He also finally managed to unload the Forum on a buyer. He had tied up Ballmers push for an arena so much Ballmer bought him out so Dolan got his wish. This was after trying to convince Jeanie Buss to move the Lakers back lmao

Now all he needs to do is sell the Knicks.

No way, Andrew...Knicks are a cash cow, one of the richest franchises in all of pro sports.

NYC is like a friggin' ghost town, like something out of a movie.....working from home is alright (even though the company cut our salaries by 20%), but it sucks not being able to hit the gym.

That is the problem. Needs to happen, not going to happen. He'd be crazy to give away an asset like the Knicks.

Imagine how much the Knicks would be worth if they weren't a dumpster fire;

It's definitely weird to think about. Also, apparently seven players have tested positive at this point.

The plan to return that's being voted on.

Woj wrote:So the NBA's inviting 22 teams to Orlando: 13 Western Conference, 9 Eastern Conference. Eight-regular season games per team. Play-in for the 8th seeds. July 31-October 12. Vote tomorrow to ratify.
The NBA's back.

I really like the idea of the NBA starting their regular season Christmas Day and ending in August. Makes more sense going toe-to-toe with Major League Baseball than the mighty NFL. I would love having the basketball during the summer to carry me to football season.

I'm guessing that'd be temporary, but I suppose there's merit in making a permanent switch. Meanwhile, according to Adam Silver, MJ was the driving force behind maintaining the traditional Playoff format (East vs West) this year and for the foreseeable future.

I agree with Michael Jordan. Adam Silver needs to stop tinkering around like a little girl.

Reminds of that Tweet that was making the rounds, suggesting that the Fallout series has now been rendered completely unbelievable because there's no way people are staying in vaults for more than two weeks.
