2019 Playoffs: (2) Denver vs. (3) Portland

Postby Lamrock on Mon Apr 29, 2019 3:53 am

I was hoping that the Spurs would win their series against the Nuggets, but sadly the better team won, and now the Blazers are stuck playing the Nuggets.

My brain says Denver wins this series, but my heart says Portland. The Blazers have a hard time winning in Denver, and with the situation at the Center position, Jokic is going to feast. I'm saying Portland in six though. The inconsistency of the Nuggets' role players nearly cost them the series against a pedestrian Spurs team, and I think Portland's guards will dominate. Probably jinxing them here, but give me the Blazers in six games.

Nuggets in six, with Lillard's efforts propelling the Blazers to take one at home and one on the road.

Denver got a slight edge with home court advantage and a center that can play but Lillard already proved me wrong this playoffs so Blazers in 6.

I think Lillard will be the biggest star of the series hence Blazers advancing to the next round. The Blazers in 5.

I have the Nuggets in 6.

Lillard is one of my favorite players in this league, but Jokic will be a different animal against POR defense in comparison to what they just faced with the Thunder.

Denver also has more shooters than OKC, which Jokic is great at finding. It would take a superhuman effort from Lillard, McCollum, and the reserve bigs for POR to win this series.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Meyers Leonard more in this one.

So many ticky tack fouls called against Portland. Jokic getting the superstar treatment

Not the funnest game to watch, but hey, a win is a win. Lillard played by far his worst game of the post-season but despite iffy officiating and an absurd rebounding advantage, the Nuggets could not buy a bucket all game. Denver shouldn't panic about this loss given their anomalous shooting but they probably won't see another 13 point night from Lillard in this series.

Jamal Murray seems to be the bellwether for the Nuggets. If his thigh injury seriously limits him, I think Portland has an excellent shot at advancing. Harkless says he's fine, and I hope he's right because he's super important.

Shout out to Rodney Hood. Everybody trashed the acquisition (besides Barkley) but he's a good guy to have around. While he's inconsistent and generally a below average player, he can get buckets. A guy like him can make all the difference in a game like last night. Zach Collins was also pretty good as well.

The Blazers are a better team. It was evident from game 2. What should have been a blow out win by Blazers was kept in check by the refs.

Jokic is a great center and would be the best player of the series by norm but in this era, traditional style centers are easier to counter. Lillard & cos should prevail unless refs do what they normally do and fuck up.

I'm not sure I agree. The refs certainly did Portland no favors, but I doubt Denver misses that many wide open threes again this series.

I consider the Nuggets are kinda like Blazers from one or two seasons ago. They're young and they got some growing/adjustment to do before making real noise in this league. They could falter like Jazz and stay mediocre or they could do good and be the Blazers of today in perhaps couple of years. We'll see.

Hoods a bum. Finally has his first good game in months.

I think the teams are closely matched. I agree Murray is the x factor for the nuggets. Hope the injury doesn't derail him. I like the Lillard vs him showdown

Edit- jokic by no means is a traditional center lmao c'mon

They had a bunch of similar wins vs OKC where they'd pack the paint and force missed 3s from guys like Westbrook and Ferguson

That was a legitimately good strategy against OKC because they're a terrible 3-point shooting team. I doubt Denver continues to choke from beyond the arc but I hope I;m wrong.

Yeah Denver is a lot better from 3 so it was simply luck that they missed all those shots. But if they continue to play that way, Blazers should come out on top because as the old saying goes, "live by the 3, die by the 3".

I guess you're right on both accounts.

It seems I under-estimated the Nuggets, mainly Jokic whom I didn't was fit for the playoffs kinda like Gobert. Also he is not a traditional center but one who can play like one successfully.

What a series. I thought the Blazers would take the series easy from there but 4 OTs? A nice treat indeed.

All good. Jokic for sure can be exploited on high screens but definitely returns the favor and some on offense

Gobert even with all his physical and athletic gifts is a Gump on offense. Sad

Man, it's so hard to overcome great free throw shooting teams at the end of games like the old D'Antoni Suns. It's just an automatic two points every time. Great free throw shooting by that bastard Murray whose Canadian heritage is obvious in his free throw ritual

I was sad I missed the 4 OT game the other night at work but I should stop watching as the ones I've watched this series have resulted in losses

Nuggets/Blazers is EASILY the most compelling series (for me)....great guard play, cats hitting big shots, and Jokic passing like vintage Bill Walton. I'm impressed by his touch. It's too bad Nurkic got hurt.

Can't wait for game 7. These playoffs have been incredible. I recently bought a Lillard jersey, but perhaps I should have gone with Rodney Hood instead...
