Yeah, the scoring has been insane. It's like a pick up game, they hardly play any defense.

We won't be having any Pacers/Pistons style low scoring games anymore. I think after the Spurs did a number on the Cavs back in 2007 the league decided fuck this, we need more scoring for the casual fan. Ain't no one watching this low scoring bullshit.

High scores aren't a bad thing, but when the defense is lacking they don't mean as much. The flashiest highlights can seem mundane when there's very little resistance; that's been the issue with the All-Star Game in recent years. A well played game at both ends is the most fun to watch (in my opinion, anyway).

Yup; I started a 2K19 story with the Cavs on 11 min. quarters and the scores were 130-140 each and I was like "well, time to drop that shit"... looks like I was wrong. To echo Lamrock, I dislike it as well.

air gordon wrote:i've caught the last 2 Jazz games. coach snyder is great. its sometimes remarkable how this team can put points on the board. Gobert is a defensive force but on offense but may possibly be the most uncoordinated player when he has the ball. Favors lost weight but can't shoot and Rubio is a big drag when he can't hit any shots.

Mitchell making some hero shots against the Rockets.

id rather see Crowder with the starters to space it out and give rubio the quick yank when he's miserable from the perimeter. just let smokin' Joe run the show

This Jazz team is awesome; too bad they have to play in the reign of the Dubs.

I'd love to see Ingles at point forward, but people would be complaining that would be underutilizing his three-ball.

the jazz offense is better when they run the pick n roll with the floor spaced. ingles creates so much offense on the PNR.

its seems a lot of hero ball is needed from mitchell when favors, gobert, and rubio are on the floor against good defending teams

It is sort of difficult for teams to play defense right now because some things they called defense last season are now fouls.

Foul rate is too high right now and that is a problem for players that play significant minutes. For instance, Paul George is averaging 4.8 fouls per game. Most players with see significant minutes almost stop playing defensive once they reach their 4th foul especially it is early on the game.

One thing I think that would improve defense a bit is if the NBA does something about offensive players being fouled after they initiated contact. I mean some plays that are defensive fouls should be offensive fouls or no foul at all.

The foul calls will probably sort themselves out. Remember when the NBA pledged to crack down on player complaints and the like with zero tolerance technicals? That lasted for about two months, except for star players who continued to be exempt from the start anyway.

Yes. I hope so too. Players will adjust and hopefully Refs will chill out a bit. There are some fouls right now that don't seem like foul at all as if there wasn't even a contact, lol.

Last night they called 2 fouls in less than 20 seconds on Draymond Green for very minor contact and I thought he was going to lose it, lol. He was pretty ok actually. He was more like "Come on, you are killing me".

With more fouls, does that mean free throws are way up?

Maybe the new shot clock rule is having an effect as well

The 10 seconds on the Offensive Rebound is really a minor rule for most of the game because 2nd chances usually last less than 10 seconds. That rule was mostly implemented to avoid long 2nd chance plays at the end of games I believe.

More Fouls do increase the number of FTs because teams reach bonus faster now and you see more fouls on the act of shooting. Also, they are calling more off-ball fouls.

I actually like the 14 second rule after an offensive rebound. You don't need those extra 10 seconds which (8 of which are given to bring the ball up) since the ball is already in your halfcourt. There's more sense of urgency instead of just pulling it out and dribbling it for 12-14 seconds before doing something with it.

The freedom of movement stuff is a bit high at the moment. You can't breathe on Harden/DeRozan type guys without being called for a foul.

I meant 14 seconds for 2nd chances, not 10, lol. But yes, 14 seconds is more than enough to make a 2nd chance play. Most 2nd chances are actually putbacks or tip-ins that take less than 2 seconds in the clock I would say.

This is kinda stupid, but how did Kawhi get the nickname Klaw/Claw? I had no idea who that was until very recently. I thought it was just a typo of Klay at first.

That's what I've always figured. Although, we could just say that it's because like Dr Claw, he has an unsettling laugh.

Large hands and the Spurs players doing 'the claw' when Kawhi was given the Finals MVP made the nickname stick.

I think the Lue dismissal is an actual case of mutual parting. Lue obviously was there to coach alongside LeBron, but they couldn't really get rid of him during the offseason after LeBron bolted since he's still on that $15 million contract. Then they started 0-6 and decided it was time to stop pretending, if they had been 2-4 or 4-2 it might have taken longer.

Rumor is they're just going to give him the rest of the whole contract and will let him take a job at any time. Usually teams either negotiate the amount left down or say "you can't coach until next season" or something.

I figure he might turn up in Minnesota after Thibs finally has that stroke. (Maybe Clips next year if Doc steps down?)

Maybe he goes back to LA to hug Lebron's nuts again

Klay hits 14 3s in a game on the way to 52 points. Scary to think about how mayn he would've had if he played the whole game and they didn't blow out Chicago.

Too many bad flashbacks for Lue in LA.

Mind you, the rings probably help. We also now have a weird situation where the Cavs and Larry Drew disagree on whether or not he's the interim head coach.

It feels like Klay and Steph are going to end up re-writing the record book there, just trading off who has the record for most in a game.

Wow, Cavs tickets going for $2? With the way they're playing, those tickets are over-priced.

But it's hard for me to feel sorry for Cavs fans. At least they have a recent championship. I haven't seen one in 45 years.

The lack of talent at the SG position for the Thunder sticks out like a sore thumb. The player that sticks out at that position with the most upside is actually Abrines, as Ferguson has looked terrible, Cabarot isn't getting a look, and Nader has never looked comfortable on the floor. But Abrines defense is such a decline from Corey Brewer last year, and Roberson when healthy, that he's a liability on the floor.

I'm puzzled as to why they didn't bring back Brewer, who provided them with solid defense, and turned into a 3 and D player that they sorely needed at that position. He averaged double figures and started many games, and they knew that Roberson would be out for quite awhile to start the season. Even with Roberson back, doesn't Brewer give them a bench option at that position they could use and sorely need?

I know they like Shroeder, but he's undersized to guard a lot of people at the SG position, he is a PG... it's his natural position. Felton per usual, looks out of shape, and I think I've seen him put up as many air-balls as I've seen him hit the rim/hit the shot. In my opinion, bringing Brewer back to start at the SG, and having Schroeder come off the bench where he can handle the ball and be an initiator, seems like the logical choice.

Brewer is still a free agent, surely a team can use his services. I would have thought the Thunder would bring him back, though.

The thunder look like a mess, and it looks like their luck has ran out when finding good young talent

Rockets not looking great either. Loss of Ariza was huge. Of course, if they snag Butler without giving up Gordon, they're back in the conversation like they were last year.

Braided Rose looks so good in retro Wolves uni's; profile pic changed.

Meanwhile, JaVale showed up to the game dressed as the Grinch... dying to know if this has anything to do with the impending Smash leaks.
