2018 PLAYOFFS: (3) Portland vs. (6) New Orleans

Postby Lamrock on Thu Apr 12, 2018 2:54 pm

We knew it was going to be Blazers/Pelicans before they played the Jazz, but with the win they get the 3 seed and home court in the first round..

New Orleans has surprised me. When Cousins went down, I didn't think they'd have the talent to stay in the playoff race, but they ended up going on a tear. They've cooled down, but thanks to AD being a beast, and their other role players stepping up, they've managed to win 48 games.

Too bad they gotta play Portland!

Honestly, I think this is going to be a fun series. Lots of storylines, one of my favorites being playoff Rondo. Still, I think having the home court advantage and a more healthy roster benefits Portland. Blazers in 6.

Blazers have a ton of bodies they can throw around to bug Davis, they wont stop him but he'll at least be exhausted in some games. Really hope Nikola and Rondo do their thing and more to surpass the blazers backcourt's production on offense but that probably won't happen because Lillard is due for a 50 point game anytime soon. Blazers in 5.

Unfortunately Portland picked up a few injuries at the end of the season. Who will be out and who will be back?

Harkless is the only guy who's still out after getting arthroscopic surgery on his knee. He's apparently supposed to be back soon, but probably won't play in the first round. It sucks because he's our starting small forward, but Evan Turner has been almost decent at times so he'll have to do. Lillard is back though and looked great against Utah tonight, as is Ed Davis. Can't complain all in all. (Y)

Blazers in 6, but I wouldn't be totally shocked by a Pelicans upset. Having home court advantage to begin the series and in a potential pivotal Game 5 is significant though, and I'll say that helps the Blazers take the series.

Blazers in 6, Pelicans looked fucked whenever Unibrow is harrassed by the defense all game. One game where Davis plays insane, the other win will be role players like Rondo or Mirotic dropping big stats for the win.

Blazers in 6. Portlands backcourt will be to much for the Pelicans to handle.

Don't count Pelicans out. They still have good players and are hungry to get to the 2nd round in a long time. Blazers ended the season in kind of a slump and Harkless will not play for the first few games. Should be a tough fought 6-7 game series.

It will be tough for blazers to overcome the loss of harkless but it's totally doable

Man, DeMarcus is still very overrated to this day. His big empty stats might be able to fool a lot of people but look at the team stats while he's on & off the court. The team actually played about the same(slightly better in fact) whether or not he played.

The Kings gave up on him for good reasons. Should have done it much sooner and kept Whiteside instead.

Upset coming?

Rondo/Jrue backcourt triumphs tonight vs Lillard/McCollum.

Not that much of an upset. I'm sticking with my prediction, but the 48 win Pelicans beating the 49 win Blazers wouldn't be a huge shock. New Orleans has a good squad. Lots of guys who I'd either written off or never heard of.

It always sucks to lose a game 1 at home. Makes game two more or less a must-win. Lillard and McCollum really struggled but that comeback was awesome til they blew it. On to the next one...

CJ was an absolute ghost in the first half. Can't have that... him and Lillard both need to be consistent to win this series.

Blazers were a legit #3 seed then harkless got hurt and a few days later lillard got hurt. too bad for harkless really since he just started playing well.

I can admit when I'm wrong.

I thought the backcourt of the Blazers would win them this series... Lillard has been dissapointing to say the least, and CJ has had far too many stretches where he just vanishes.

Nurkic had a strong first half last night, but did absolutley nothing in the 3rd quarter, and by the end of the 3rd the Pelicans were up by 9.

The Celtics climbed out of a 0-2 hole against CHI last year... after Rondo went down. I don't think Portland can come back in this series... I'm sad because Portland is one of my favorite teams in the NBA.

Saw a stat on social media earlier that noted Lillard is scoreless when being guarded by Holiday in the series. Admittedly that amounts to being 0/8 against him, but he and McCollum are really being outplayed by the Pelicans' backcourt. Throw in Davis continuing to play at an MVP level and Mirotic chipping in as well, and the Pelicans are looking good to advance. I underestimated them.
